Spook-Tacular Celebration Godfest: Archangel, Indian 2, Angel 2, & Sengoku Review and Analysis

Godfest basics

When making the decision to roll or save your magic stones, you need to determine if the featured pantheons can benefit or compliment your teams. Chasing for one specific monster is unwise as you will most likely be disappointed and should ideally have Godfests that overlap with many target cards. Remember all monsters that come out of the REM will qualify for Skill Inheritance so do not be too hasty when selling dupes. For a more detailed team building help, please refer to my full list Popular Leader’s and their Full Sub List Post. Lastly, to find more information about a specific pantheon or monster, refer to my Master List to better refine your search. If you are considering to purchase a Four Gentlemen card, please read my Review and Comparison HERE.

Introduction

I am not sure what is scarier: The title of the Godfest or the featured pantheons.

Video commentary

Day 1:

The Indian 2 pantheon has undergone numerous changes due to the release/announcement of their new evolutions. Prior to this, they were mediocre at best with few uses at the time. However, their new forms breathe life into their viability as leaders. North American players already have had a taste of the power of Sarasvati 3069 and her fire and water cousins also bring a fresh spin on the mono-combo leader skill to help add diversification to your boxes. In addition, Ganesha 3071 has become one of the most desired cards in the game due to the additional rank experience awarded after clearing a dungeon. Overall, they are quite powerful and now worth rolling for if you are missing them.

On the other hand, the Archangel pantheon is aging badly as their viability is being pushed out by stronger options. Uriel, Gabriel, and Michael have for the most part stronger counterparts from the Hero Gods while Lucifer has not been relevant for a long time. The main appeal is Raphael who possesses one of the most unique actives in the game that allows you to cheese your way through what would otherwise be lethal floors.

Overall, Day 1 could have been so much stronger if they had paired Indian 2 with something better. Both days feature Kaede and the newer Godfest Exclusives so it is harder to make generalizations for which day has better GFEs.

Krishna will be receiving his highly anticipated ultimate evolution in the near future that reignites the flame and passion for fire teams. Fire has historically had inaccessible leads and has been lacking a well rounded team for quite some time now. However, this will all change with Krishna as you will now be able to form a 2.25x HP / 45.56x ATK / 2.25x RCV fire team that is reliant on matching fire combos.

This makes him a more durable Sarasvati as you will now be able to easily tank most preemptives along with being able to recover from them. Furthermore, your team building is amazingly flexible as you can use any fire sub as there are no restrictions. In addition, you can stack row enhances Fire Row to help compensate for the “lower” multiplier.

Drawbacks to Krishna as a lead include a vulnerability to binds, a lower multiplier, and somewhat issues with damage control. Despite all this, Krishna will be able to clear a lot of end game content as they can withstand most attacks while being able to deliver heavy burst damage with rows.

As a sub, Krishna becomes more appealing as either a way to ensure all fire orbs come enhanced, a way to deal with skyfall preemptives, or as a base for skill inheritance.

Sarasvati is the blue, prettier, and harder hitting form of Krishna. Her leader skill now provides a passive 2x ATK to all water types and provides an additional 5x with 3 water combos. This change allows her to achieve 100x ATK with only 9 water orbs on the board while still being able to stack row enhances for spectacular damage at 12+ orbs. This is incredible and will allow her to deal spectacular damage that puts her on par with the 300k MP You Yu You Yu. I did a full analysis comparing the two which you  can read HERE, but the bottom line is that Sarasvati begins to deal more damage once you have 9 water orbs on the board.

Even with such a spectacular evolution, it comes at a price. Mainly her lack lack of damage control (due to the fact her leader skill ramps up far too quickly) and no HP/RCV multiplier. This can make stalling a challenge and the permanent water skyfalls could work against you. You also have to heavily invest in skilling her up as the main appeal of using dual Sarasvati leads is the 100% up-time on the skyfall buff. However, you should not be using her for every dungeon as she shines brightest in content with fewer mechanics and massive HP pools. My full team building guide can be found HERE.

Overall, Sarasvati is a wonderful leader to own and excels in shorter dungeons with fewer mechanics and high damage requirements.

Vishnu was once heralded as a superstar wood sub; however, time and powercreep has not been kind and he is now struggling to find a home for his amazing 3 TPA awakenings. To help address this, GungHo decided to buff his leadership potential with a new ultimate evolution that allows him to form a 56.25x ATK / 2.25x RCV team that is reliant on wood combos and TPA. This seems reasonable in theory, but with the introduction of Ace Bastet Cross Bastet or Kaede Ult Kaede. his multiplier will feel weak by comparison.

This is not to say he will not be a strong leader, but the bar has been raised so high that it is hard to compete when you do not do anything that truly sets you apart from the masses. As a sub, Vishnu has become stronger due to additional utility and can be used on most mono wood teams, but he is no longer the staple sub he once was.

1.5x EXP and 2x Coin
Ganesha has been largely sidelined due to the insignificant role coins play at higher ranks. However, they have now become one of the most desirable cards in the game due to the 1.5x rank experience gained when completing a dungeon. This is Fantastic for Experience of a Lifetime or even Monday Dungeon. JP players have devised button teams for Monday dungeon that utilize dual Genesha leads and are now able to rank up faster than ever before. Some may argue this takes away from the skill of the game, but for some, being able to push rank faster is what matters most. Even if you are unable to button through Monday, you can easily use a single Ganesha lead paired with a high multiplier friend.

Outside of this, Ganesha will some uses as their active is now a full board enhance and full damage void for 1 turn. This is reasonable (although better options exisit for either enhance or damage void) for skill inheritance, but you may be best to not inherit him away to better take advantage of easy rank experience.

Durga received a sizable buff to her viability and artwork through her latest ultimate evolution. This finally granted her 9 awakenings to better compete with other available options along with an increase to her leader skill. She is now able to form a 56x ATK / 2.25x RCV devil team and with the massive sub pool at her disposal, should not be difficult in forming a synergistic team. Unfortunately, a 56x ATK rainbow team was top tier maybe a year or so ago and will still struggle to deal enough damage in today’s meta. Yes, the RCV is helpful, but if you fail to deal enough damage, all the recovery in the world will not save you.

As such, we should be exploring her sub potential as she now has 9 awakenings. Her dual TPA and high base ATK will allow her to spike very high along with covering. Unfortunately, there are no strong rainbow/combo dark teams and may remain a Skill Inheritance assistant due to the sizable buff or HP reset for Dark Metatron dtron teams.

One thing to keep in mind is the dual SBR Skill Lock Resist which gives you the potential to pair with Sephiroth Sephiroth as relies on devil typing.

Uriel, like the rest of his pantheon, received Bankai evolutions. Bankai is a term often applied to monsters who have received an ultimate evolution of an already existing evolution. These types of evolutions grant the monster 3 different typings along with additional awakenings. There is no change to their active skill.

Uriel has unusually high recovery for a fire monster and his 4 auto heal Auto heal awakenings grant 2,000 health every turn an orb is matched. These can be great for many fire teams as many struggle with recovering health. His God typing allows him to be used on Shiva Dragon Shiva D teams and his healer sub type will make him a staple sub on Xiang Mei Xiang Mei (a new 300k MP monster). Furthermore, Uriel has an amazing orb change combo with Gadius Gadius or Leilan Awoken Leilan to create dual colour, fire heavy boards for explosive burst damage.

Uriel’s 3 fire row Fire Row awakenings allow him to make an appearance on other row based teams, but will limit his usage on TPA TPA heavy teams such as Awoken Shiva Shiva.

Gabriel was my first REM monster on Mantastic and has largely been collecting dust since his arrival 2013. Even with his Bankai evolution, amazing weighted stats, and 9 awakenings, I am still feeling incomplete and hesitant to put him on my teams. This is because Andromeda Bankai Andro fulfills the double orb changer role better. Both generate water and heart orbs, but Andromeda has superior awakenings and is a pretty girl. The pretty girl argument would probably convince most people to use Andromeda over Gabriel, but the 4 auto heal Auto heal awakenings do not have much place on water teams who usually have high RCV multipliers (I&I I&I / Ryune Ryune, Lakshmi Awoken Lakshimi, or Blue Sonia Blue Sonia).

You can still use Gabriel on any mono water team as his active is powerful and the 3 water row Water Row have great synergy with most teams. One thing to keep in mind is the enhanced heart orbs combo beautifully with any heart breaker as they will retain their enhanced status. This can be crucial for bursting through end game bosses such as Arena Kalis.

Michael follows the same pattern of Uriel and Gabriel in that he provides 3 row enhances and 2,000 worth of auto heal. Michael has great base stats and a powerful orb changer and can be utilized on numerous mono wood teams. He finds a home on Sylvie Sylvie / Freyja Awoken Freyja teams as the heart generation can be a lifesaver in high end dungeons. Michael is comparable to Perseus Bankai Perseus for Sylvie/Freyja as both fulfil the wood and heart orb generation role. Normally Persus would be the stronger option due to superior awakenings as the auto heal is somewhat wasted due to your team already having an augmented health pool. However, Michael’s orb change has amazing synergy with Meimei MeiMei or Sylvie to create a 2/3 wood board with enhanced hearts.  Michael’s lack of a Two Prong Attack TPA may sideline him from non-row based mono wood teams such as Bastet Michael, but can still be used due to his utility.

However, Michael shines bright on Awoken Astaroth Astaroth teams as his healer typing allows him an almost guaranteed sub spot as her sub pool is horribly limited.

Raphael went from zero to hero with his new ultimate evolution and active skill rework. With an unprecedented 5 light row Light Row awakenings, he brings amazing passive damage to every row team. Looking at his other awakenings, they are somewhat lackluster as he has no bind immunity and thus makes his bind recovery Bind Clear awakening less valuable, but at least he can generate heart orbs. Raphael’s active is interesting as it allows you to create an entire board of light orbs if you bring an appropriate heart breaker (Valkyrie valkpad, Pollux Pollux, Apollo Awoken Apollo, etc.). However, with out a light orb enhance or lucky skyfalls, your damage may be somewhat capped as you do not receive any combo multiplier bonus nor additional damage from multiple row activations. However, the 2 turns of full damage void can be critical for end game content where bosses have resolve, gigantic health pools, or dangerous kill mechanics.

Raphael can be found as a stellar sub on Thor Thor / Saria Saria, Superman 2824, and healer teams provided you need the damage void and potential for high burst damage. However, for most content, you are usually better off bringing an additional orb changer.

Perhaps the greatest asset of Raphael is his ability to have his active inherited onto any card to help promote various cheese strategies where you bypass otherwise lethal mechanics.

Useless-ifer, I mean Archangel Lucifer was once the most desired monster in Puzzle and Dragons (3+ years ago) as he was capable of forming a formidable 4x HP / 4x RCV team that could execute bosses with his 300k active nuke. However, times have changed and modern day tank teams are capable of explosive burst damage through row enhances and numerous orb changer. It is simply an issue of powercreep, but GungHo has tried to keep buffing Lucifer to keep him abreast in the current meta with numerous tweaks to his current day active that is stronger and has a skill up material (but requires 15 successful skill ups). However, Lucifer still struggles to find a home on any team due to an active that essentially spawns 6 heart orbs while resetting your HP to 1 on a very long cooldown if unskilled. His 3 two prong TPA awakenings go completely to waste as you would not use a sub who has no active skill contribution.

Perhaps the only viable (and that is stretching it) use Lucifer could have is on the new dark Gentlemen MP Dragon Xin Hua team as dark balance monsters are nearly non-existent. On the bright side, Lucifer has amazing artwork in the game and is a very pretty trophy in my box.

Day 2

Day 2 features the niche Angel 2 pantheon along with the highly desired Sengoku. The Angel 2’s are somewhat of an awkward pantheon as none have any exceptional value on high end teams with the exception of Rozuel. The true damage component on Famiel and Lumiel do make them more desirable as a push button sub, but have inferior awakenings and less skill boosts than Awoken Ra. Overall, the Angel 2’s are lackluster and is unfortunate as they are paired with the stellar Sengoku.

The Sengoku series all feature amazing cards that have tremendous value on their respective teams and as assistants via Skill Inheritance due to their unique and powerful actives. For the most part, many of them were neglected as subs due to inferior awakenings and base stats, but that was all amended through their split evolutions. For the most part, you should choose the path that provides the best awakenings for your team as they are for the most part used as subs.

All in all, Day 2 is less appealing than Day 1 as the Angel 2’s lack enough appeal by comparison.

Rozuel was once regarded as a lackluster sub. Then Ronove Ronove was released and she suddenly became highly desired as she was the strongest fire/water sub for his rainbow heart-cross team. Rozuel possesses a heart generating active to help keep a steady influx of heal orbs along with bind immunity and bind recover awakenings. This means she can act as a pseudo bind clearer for Ronove and mono-fire teams along with acting as a strong base for Skill Inheritance.

In addition to her defensive utility and colour coverage, her triple Two Prong Attack awakenings allow her to spike for very high damage which can come in handy when facing high defense bosses.

I am looking forward to Awoken Shiva’s Shiva new evolution where Rozuel’s TPA will be most utilized.

Famiel’s board change is most efficient on Umisachi Yamasachi 2982 who is scheduled to receive their awoken evolution soon. However, this was a very niche area as essentially every other team could not capitalize on this strange board changer. Thankfully, GungHo has buffed Famiel to also provide 100,000 true damage to all enemies allowing them to act as a push button sub or skill inheritance. Just be conscious of their single skill boost awakening and 1 turn longer cooldown compared to Awoken Ra Ra.

Famiel’s triple two prong awakenings allow them to spike for Fantastic damage and their bind immunity can have certain value if used as a bind clearer via Skill Inheritance.

Ruel has always been an awkward card since her release as she struggled to find an ideal home. Her triple TPA would have made her appealing on previous mono wood teams, but was largely outclassed by Vishnu 3070 as he possesses a superior active. Thus, Ruel was left to sit in various monster boxes and will somewhat continue that trend to this day.

Ruel’s active does not provide good value to mono wood teams as three wood orbs on a 5-turn cooldown is lackluster as the dark component goes largely to waste. In theory, Ruel can act as a strong base for Skill Inheritance as their triple TPA and bind immunity can provide uses for an offensive bind removal.

Ariel is an interesting card as she possesses three TPA awakenings along with bind immunity. Her base active is reasonable and can be used to help correct poor board changers or to provide just the right number of orbs to avoid a damage absorb. In addition, her 4 turn cooldown has value for inheriting a new active on top of her and that can be used for either more offensive capabilities or defensive utility.

Many players may be eyeing Ariel as a potential Myr Miru or Awoken Izanagi Awoken Izanagi sub if they are wanting to pursue a more TPA build. This does work, but I would caution the usage of Ariel’s base active as it has a chance to override your crucial heart orbs which could leave you unable to activate. Thus, you should almost always inherit something on top to play it safe as well as to provide more value for her active.

Unfortunately, the enhancing component goes to waste on Awoken Shiva Shiva teams and currently, fire row Fire Row based teams lack a powerful leader outside of Raoh Raoh or Awoken Cao Cao A Cao Cao as he is largely a push-button leader. However, with the eventual release of Uuevo Krishna, Sanada may have a reliable team to call home.

In the mean time for both Krishna and Sanada’s evolution, we can use Sanada as a fantastic option for Skill Inheritance as he combines fire and heart orb generation along with fire orb enhancement. Lastly, he can be combo-ed with Mori Mori Motanari for a full board of enhanced fire orbs.

Mori Motonari had less popularity because of the abundance of full board changers who are water types. However, this all changes with the introduciton of his new ultimate evolution. He now has 4 amazing water row enhances on top of augmented base stats and his overpowering active. 11/10 times you should choose this evolution as the other form offers lesser awakenings and a largely irrelevant leader skill.

Noteworthy teams Mori can make an appearance on are include Sarasvati 3069, Neptune Dragon Neptune Dragon , Blue Sonia Blue Sonia , and Awoken I&I I&I / Ryune Ryune . His board change does work for Awoken Hermes Awoken Hermes, but you are gambling on a bi-colour board that is skewed to water.

However, with the advent of Skill Inheritance, Mori may have additional options as he can be used for both mono water and fire teams. The haste allows you to cycle your other actives more readily and may have many applications in coop farming. Just a word of caution, Mori’s has a very long cooldown, and you may have to wait longer than is ideal to use his active through skill inheritance.

Keiji has an interesting active as he will randomly change your board. This will remove locked orbs as well as give the chance at cascades to occur. If a cascade does trigger, all of your cooldowns will decrease by 1 and the boss will not retaliate. However, due to the randomness of the board change, you are not guaranteed 3 of each element. This creates an inherit risk when using Keiji ‘s active on rainbow teams. He is largely eclipsed by Light Kali and Dark Kali Dark Kali due to lower stats and no guaranteed spawns. Keiji will mostly be used on Sakuya Sakuya , Awoken Ra Ra , and Ra Dragon Ra Dragon, teams.

However, many players will value Keiji for his board refresh active as an assistant for Skill Inheritance. This can be easily transferred onto your team and even mono-colour teams may benefit as a means to remove locked orbs.

With an ultimate evolution, Keiji may find more viability, but may still be regulated to an assistant via Skill Inheritance due to the random-ness of his active unless you need a 100x glass cannon leader.

He was once marred as a either a skill inherit assistant or a less ideal sub because of the low base stats and awakenings.  Conclusion

Day 1 features the stronger line up as both pantheons have more applications compared to the Angel 2’s. Even though the Indian 2 cards are not top tier leaders, they add a unique option to your monster box that is better able to handle various mechanics that you may not be able to overcome otherwise. This is also paired with the invaluable utility of Ganesha and Raphael means you should have a valuable roll in almost every scenario.

Let me know what you hope to roll this Godfest and how many stones you have saved up/budgeting.

Happy Puzzling!

  1. I think Indian 2 Gods is the only complete pantheon collection I have. I wish I could skill Ganesha up, but I didn’t have him when the Batman vs Superman dungeon was active. Ganesha is useful to have just for the weekend dungeon since skill inheritance can get expensive.

I can’t even use Raphael on my teams because every time I try to skill him up, I got 0/5. He ends up just taking space.

I spent my 20 stones on Halloween, so I have to skip this one. Hopefully next time the Sengoku Samurais will be paired with something better.

    1. Well having the complete Indian 2 is pretty amazing as they are one of the strongest pantheons atm. Skill ups will come in time or when you are able to reliably farm Arena for Py. I would have been rolling in day 2 IF it wasnt angel 2 zzz

  2. I’m probably gonna roll most/all of my stones day 1 because of the Indian 2 and the parallel to Heaven’s Gala, seems like I can pull a lot of Myr subs and hope for Sarasvati as well.
Wish me luck, I’m banking on 145 stones at the moment.

  3. Godfest day2 deserves a comment about being amazing for some players at banning out Sonia Odin and Norns. Rarely (has it been 6+ months?) do we get these three removed from the pool at once. This is the real reason I’m rolling this time, misc pantheon that come up are purely incidental.

    Like

    1. Well the Norns are reasonable in a heart cross meta as inheritance options along with Verdandi being useful on Kaede as a sub. However, the odins n meta havent been good for a long time

Best of luck in getting Akechi!

    1. U&Y needs multiple water combos, but if your famiel board isn’t good, you can not fix it. This makes other board changers better. (Sherias maybe?)

      Like

      1. Famiel and Sherias are both viable orb changers, but as the second person said, Famiel is unreliable as you cannot use an orb changer to correct it. However, Sherias would also be prone to even less water orbs and being forced to use a second active more often could be problematic.

I will look into more when I do my write up on U&Y =)

  4. As usual, I don’t have much faith in the PCGF lineup. Fully expecting it to be comprised of nothing but cards I own and 6* GFEs again. As such, I’ll be pulling Day 2 in the hopes of breaking my “Can only pull Mori.” curse on that pantheon.
