[PSA] January Monthly Quests – Problematic Scheduling

Introduction

Monthly Quests are one of the better things to come to Puzzle and Dragons in the later part of 2017. These series of quests provide much needed structure and direction to newer players as they now have an obvious goal to pursue as PAD can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Most of us have become accustomed to the Monthly Quest Dungeon tab in the Specials section and could play/complete them any our convenience. Unfortunately, January’s Quests will be far more challenging to clear properly as it removes the monthly window to complete them. Instead you now have to clear specific dungeons on specific days of the month along with it being poorly highlighted/visible overall.

This series of Quests caused issues for many JP players and I find it strange GungHo is repeating a poorly designed scheduale again. Nevertheless, this article/PSA will hopefully reach enough people and better explain how to fully complete January’s Quests.

Monthly Quests

As a whole, the Monthly Quests concept is amazing and provides wonderful direction for newer players as it presents a tangible goal to achieve that is only available for a limited time. The lack of direction was one is often cited as a major hurdle for newer players starting out as you go from a basic tutorial to relying on third party websites/databases for information and guidance.

In addition to the direction/structure, the Monthly Quests provide a sizable reward for clearing all 30 of them and can quickly springboard most accounts forward. Furthermore, you could complete all 30 tasks at any given time which often led to procrastination but at least was done in time.

Sadly, this beloved format is about to change for January as we will no longer have the convinient Monthly Quest tab to play through along with a more time-sensitive format.

January format

The January monthly quests will no longer feature a Monthly tab and instead have previous dungeons now appearing with a Pink banner.

This will cause confusion as it can already appear cleared if you have already played that particular dungeon. Furthermore, in order to “clear” the dungeon and receive the corresponding monthly reward, you will have to do so with a No Dupes team on the highest difficulty. Just note that you can still (re)play any stage with a duplicate team member, it will just simply be a regular clear and no Quest rewards will be given.

To furthermore compound the confusion, dungeons that qualify for Monthly rewards will be available for a brief period of time and you will have to remain vigilant in inspecting each dungeon every day (Dungeons will become available again at a later date but will only last for a single day).

Clearing all of the featured Quests will unlock a special One-Shot Challenge dungeon.

To recap, you must:

  • Play all pink banner dungeon with a No Dupes team, even if it no longer flashes “new” or was previously cleared
  • Check Quests tab after you believe you fulfilled the requirements to ensure reward is given
  • Check back every day or adhere to the schedule below
  • Unlock a special One-Shot Challenge after clearing all the featured dungeons

Conclusion

The January Quests will have a much more convoluted path to success compared to previous series. This is because we will no longer have access to a helpful Monthly Quest tab and our progress will not be tracked as efficiently.

Once again, you must clear every Pink Banner dungeon using a No Dupes team regardless of whether or not you actually cleared the dungeon in the past. Once doing this, you should immediately check the Quest Rewards tab to ensure the requirements were met and reward was received.

Overall this feels like a backwards move in terms of Quality of Life but February’s format will not have this same confusing mechanic.

Happy Puzzling!

  1. So does this mean once I finish the 4 dungeons in the first week, I’m done for that week, even if they reappear? I assume I don’t get the rewards again if I clear them when they return, except if that’s true the number of rewards is much lower, so I’m not sure.

Anyway, glad they don’t reuse this format, it’s obnoxious.

    1. It is a repeating an already released dungeon. Thus, if you have not cleared them before you can get a stone. This is perhaps best for newer players who missed these older rotations

  2. I realized today how simplistic/easy this challenge is going to be. I guess some of the last dungeons will be challenging, but I knocked out these first 4 in like 10 minutes and 100 stamina (co-op). Super anti-climactic.

-Anyway-, looking forward to next month’s lineup.

  3. I was sure that had already completed a few of these. Or at the very least one of them, but I am getting free stones for each first clear. So i think they are dungeons of their own and even if you have done the dungeons elsewhere you get the first clear stones.

So while i don’t like split times for the various dungeons, i am ok with it if it means i keep getting free stones.

  4. I’ve also been getting free stones and no drops for completing everything. I was sure that ive beaten most of these before but I guess stones are always a plus.

    1. I have only received a stone if the dungeon was previously uncleared. This only applied to mechdragon rush and I did receive a stone when I cleared every floor. The others were already cleared so I only got the quest reward

  5. Mantastic, your posts have been wonderful in helping me understand this game. I was wondering if you could clarify something else for me. I’m a bit fuzzy when it comes to box awakenings in regards to monsters. I’ve read your posts and watched a few videos, but I still have questions. Let me give you a real world example – I have Pixel Tifa from FF. Where would I use her? Would she work against Sodpet in Sphinx’s dungeon? What about Zeus in Astral Plane Deity 3? Also, in order to use her would I have to run her in a team that does not have other light monsters? I seem to recall using her in Legendary Snowy Valley against Apex Blue Flower Dragon on an Ilm/Ilmina team and having her damage negated by all the other light monsters.

Thanks in advance. Keep up the great analysis!

    1. Glad I have been of help =)

      As for your question,
Pixel cards with the Box awakening are only able to ignore damage void mechanics, not absorbs

Thus, Sopdet, the Starling in Snowy Valley, and Level 3/4 of Astral will not be countered by your pixel.

However, Floor 5 and 6 can be cleared via Pixel (check out my new post with videos https://mantasticpad.com/2018/01/02/videos-astral-plane-diety-clears/)

As for team compositions, you can have her on a variety of teams and it is not mandatory for it to be mono-colour
