June 30 – July 1 Godfest Review Plus New Odin Evolution & Mesopotamian Commentary

Godfest Basics

The format for Godfests has been dramatically changed through their REM Renewal along with Full Disclosure of Rolling Rates. These changes dramatically improve your chances of rolling a specific card as the pool of available monsters is significantly smaller as only a portion of the all possible monsters are featured at a given time. This is great news for players as you are better able to focus your Magic Stones on key cards.

Godfests no longer advertise “rate increases” and instead Highlighted specific cards along with 6/7* Godfest Exclusives being available. As such, these events are the best time to roll the REM as the current meta is heavily favouring these rare and elusive monsters.

Rolling rates may change or vary with each Godfest event and some 6/7* GFE may have higher rolling rates. Always check the rolling rates before proceeding.

Introduction

Saturday marks the return of our bi-monthly Godfests and features absolutely nothing interesting this time around. This is because it is just a standard Godfest with an average line up and no boosted rates/additional cards being available.

With that being said, it is a pretty good event to skip in order to save your Magic Stones for a more lucrative event as there is speculation (nothing confirmed) that NA will be receiving a Super Godfest in the near future along with the release of a new 7* GFE.

On the other hand, both Red and Blue Odin received Mega Awoken evolutions that dramatically improve their viability. In addition to the regular Godfest review, this article will be touching upon the Odins to help you better understand them along with possibly changing your mind about using them as Monster Exchange fodder.

Official announcement can be found HERE.

Godfest overview

Unlike Godfests of the past, only some 6/7* GFE will be featured. If they are listed as unavailable, you will be unable to roll them during the event.

You ideally wish to line up a Godfest that overlaps with several key targets to improve your overall chances of success. Thus, it may be advantageous to wait for a more opportune Godfest if the current one does not feature enough key targets.

Based on the revealed rolling rates of previous Godfests, 6* GFE will have 0.6% hit rate whereas the 7* had 0.5%. With that being said, some GFE may feature an increased rate and you simply have to check the displayed rolling rates each time.

On a side note, Ameno  and Dark Kali  have been absent for the second time in a row.

 Mega Awoken Odins

The Odins are some of the oldest cards in Puzzle and Dragons and it was only a matter of time before they received Mega Awoken evolutions.

Mega Awoken evolutions are currently restricted to 6* GFE and it alters their active skill, leader skill, and awakenings (along with animation) which essentially transforms them into a brand new card. As such, it is impossible to try and predict what future changes will occur for the newer 6* GFE.

Active skill

In the case of the Odins, both mirror each other in that both act as double orb changers (that break hearts) along with providing +2 combo count on a 12-turn cooldown which essentially mirrors a Meridionalis  active.

This type of +2 combo count is beneficial on mono-colour teams who can actually take advantage of the additional orbs and is usually inappropriate for combo/rainbow-based teams. Thankfully, both Odins are able to lead powerful mono-colour teams.

Leader skill

Each Odin is able to form a 1/156.25/1 team with a nearly unconditional 43.75% damage reduction. This is quite a powerful leader skill considering they only need 6 combos to achieve 25x ATK and damage reduction which enables them to easily dance through problematic encounters or stall as needed. Unfortunately, both Odins suffer from a lack of personal damage along with their 4-connected or clause possibly causing team building issues.

For the most part, a 156.25x ATK multiplier is average in this day and age, but what helps propel a leader into greatness is their own ability to contribute meaningful damage as one is using two of them. This usually comes in the form of offensive awakenings which the Odins lack since Void Damage Penetration  is not practical on an average board. As such, both leaders will only be dealing 156.25x ATK and must rely on their subs to deal damage.

Generally speaking, 7 Combo 45 is the most universal and powerful offensive awakening as it functions across most scenarios and does not require special set up/orb distribution to function. As such, having the 4-connected clause could potentially cause some issues for hitting 7 Combos, but should be reasonably negligible. Thankfully, TPA TPA has perfect synergy with the Odin’s activation.

At the moment, TPA is not a favoured awakening because it requires all cards to have it along with causing orb distribution problems; however, one other major problem TPA cards faced was a lack of a good place to use them on. Thus, the Odins are one of the best choices for abusing the TPAs as players are forced to match 4+ connected orbs. As such, cards like Scheat  suddenly have more relevance as they can now be successfully be tapped into. The only minor drawback with using Scheat on Blue Odin teams is that both change Heart and Light orbs.

Awakenings

Both Odins retain their high Skill Boost Skill Boost count which works wonders when playing through content as players will start with 6 from just their two leaders. This can help alleviate team building issues in solo mode and the double Void Damage Penetration gives them more options.

Sub potential

The Odins will probably not be a favourable sub outside of situational VDP usage as their active only helps mono-colour teams and the rest of their awakenings do not contribute much overall.

Void Damage Penetration  potential

Void Damage Penetration enables the owning card to ignore Damage Void mechanics (such as Zeus and Gaia Dragon) which can help trivialize what is normally a lethal spawn. Unfortunately, a VDP card is often tasked with dealing the entire HP of an encounter as all other cards will be Voided out. As such, a VDP monster must have a combination of a burst active, bi-colour board changer, and strong personal damage to succeed.

For the most part, players can modify their team accordingly to accommodate this need, but the main challenge is finding a suitable VDP card to use. At this point in time, Yusuke  and Valentine’s Ney  are the strongest options due to their double 7 Combo (and double TPA for Ney) awakenings. This combined with Balance typing (can use any Killer latent) enables them to have amazingly high personal damage.

Unfortunately for the Odins, their double VDP and smaller Latent Killer selection results in lower personal damage. This is not to say they are poor options (can still gain an edge against their elementally-weak attribute), they will just be less proficient overall. With that being said, the Odins do gain an edge when used as leaders since players will be having 2 cards dealing piercing damage. This alone may be enough damage and their triple Skill Boost awakenings helps charge up other supporting actives quickly.

Overall, the Odins are viable VDP options but are weaker than Yusuke and Valentine’s Ney in most cases as a VDP options.

Conclusion

The Odins are gain significant improvement through their Mega Awoken evolutions, but I feel they will not make a great an impact compared to the Sonias overall. This is because their Leader Skill is somewhat middle of the road in terms of damage while only being a bit higher in terms of survivability; however, it is the lack of personal damage that may hinder their progress in end game content. In addition, their active skill tends to only be helpful on their own teams whereas the Sonias are often a favourite choice as subs/inherits.

This is not to say the Odins are weak, they are just not as potent as what many players were hoping for.

GFE Tier list

This list reflects a card’s overall usage/viability in the current meta as well as moving forward. Cards are in no particular order within each tier.

Use these rankings as a starting point and not as absolute truth. Highly valued cards only have merit if you have a team to support them so they are somewhat subjective to your own Monster Box.

Regardless of card’s ranking, you should almost always keep the first copy of anything you roll

Kanna is still in an awkward spot as Light TPA is not favourable along with her base active being lackluster for the most part. Thankfully, the future Myr  evolution will give Kanna more merit as the Heart Cross playstyle can be cumbersome along with sometimes being impossible to form 7 Combos. As such, Kanna may be utilized more on a relevant team and her positioning should reflect this.

Godfest summary

Overall, this Godfest has a reasonable line up but is nothing special along with not having boosted rolling rates. As such, it may be wise to simply skip this event and save your Magic Stones for something more desirable.

There is speculation that we will be having a Super Godfest in the near future but nothing is confirmed.

GFE Trading Post

After the excitement of the Yu Yu Hakusho Collab and now Magic: The Gathering Collab, many players may be in need of restocking back up on 6* GFE. Sadly, gunning purely for 6* GFE was best done during the previous Super Godfest where the chances of rolling a 6* GFE were significantly higher.

Regardless, the Trading Post/Monster Exchange System makes it highly undesirable to actually sell any 6* GFE as they can instead be traded in for a desirable/rare card.

Pantheon/5* GFE Highlights

With the presence of a Godfest, only 6* GFE are Highlighted. As a result, the 6* Pantheon cards now lose their Highlighted rates and drop down to around 0.64% chance to roll which makes them on par with 6* GFE.

This creates an interesting conundrum, during non-Godfest events, the chances of you rolling a 6* Pantheon card are significantly higher but you cannot acquire the GFE.

With this in mind, it is still best to roll in Godfest events as the 6* GFE tend to be stronger overall and you can at least still roll a 6* Pantheon card at the same time.

Rolling rates may change each Godfest so always double check the line up beforehand.

Featured Cards

The Rare Egg Machine will continuously rotate various Pantheon and former 5* GFE cards that will overlap with Godfests. The following is not an exhaustive list, but only highlighting the notable cards being featured alongside. regardless, always check the official line up in game for confirmation of what is available.

    3372

From the Mesopotamian series, Gilgamesh  is able to act as a Fujin  style active along with generating a column of fire orbs. While the fire orbs are lackluster for most teams, Makato  teams love the 5 fire orbs as it enables them to fully activate while sweeping an Absorption spawn.

Ea  can potentially be the fastest charging +2 combo count active due to their Skill Charge  awakening, but this forces players to use them as a sub which can be challenging due to only 2 TPA awakenings and the need to match all 5 colours. Furthermore, Ea becomes a lackluster inherit due to the 15 turn cooldown which is significantly longer than other +2 combo options.

For green, Enkidu  can randomly spawn 4 Wood orbs along with providing 4 turns of Wood skyfalls and 1.5x RCV for 4 turns. While this may feel strange at first, it can be used on Vraska  teams if needing additional healing while also providing additional Wood orbs. Just be careful when initially using Enkidu’s active as it can overwrite Dark orbs.

On the other hand, Shamash  combines a 30% gravity and 3 turn bind/awoken bind clear. This is not particularly amazing considering the 20 turn cooldown which is only offset by Skill Charge if used as a sub and rainbow activation.

Finally, Allatu  combines a Haku  board changer with a 3 turn delay. While this may seem like an odd combination, it is one of the few tri-colour boards Jhoira  can activate from while the delay is valuable utility.

As a whole, the Meopotamian pantheon is reasonable but not worth pursuing overall.

As for the featured former GFE, Light Metatron  and Red Sonia  will mostly be sought after for their Weapon Assist forms while Zuoh, Sherias, and Balboa are situational at best.

Collabs vs Godfests

Prior to the reveal, it was quite risky to roll in Collabs as they often left players more disappointed than anything else. However, after seeing various Collab rolling rates, one has a pretty solid chance at acquiring a 7*+ card. Of course you will have to weigh the pros and cons along with examining the lowest rarity rolls from the Collab.

On the bright side, we are now able to utilize the Monster Exchange System to trade in for a desirable card. This was most prominent for acquiring Yusuke  as players did not actually have to roll in it and could simply exchange four 6* GFE/YYH Collab cards.

Sadly, Collabs are starting to shift towards the strongest cards in the game which is unfortunate for newer players as there is simply not enough Magic Stones to go around.

As a result, it has become more valuable for veteran player to roll in Collabs due to the fact that it offers cards you cannot otherwise replicate. On the other hand, newer players will tend to find more merit in regular Godfests as they need to round out their Monster Box before chasing more niche cards.

Conclusion

The upcoming Godfest is average overall and does not feature a particularly strong line up or bonus rolling rates. As a result, it would probably be best to skip all together outside of the free roll as we will have stronger events in the future.

Let me know what you think about this event in the comments below along with how much you plan on rolling.

Happy Puzzling!

  1. 1st roll was Cotton. It is my 2nd one and now I do not need to choose netween blue and green. I can make both colors. After this I got Kagutsuchi (never knew what to do with him). Next was Indra (yeah) followed by my 2nd Shamash.
Waited 4 hours for the free roll. It was Nim…ok. Buyed 2 last rolls for Ganesha (I have 2 Li so maybe there will be a use for them in the future) and last roll was Yog.

Yog with Pralinae, Astraea…Serra Angel, Shamash and Ganesha. But wait. Maybe a ligth Cotton instead of blue?

      1. 1st Cotton is now green. She was replacing Zela as Zelas AS is way to slow and a 5 turn AS is great for longer dungeons (Kaede is my strongest team atm).
My 2nd Cotton will go blue, as my blue box is my biggest. Gabriel, Alrescha, 2 Andro, Barbarossa, Hermes, RevoI&I, Motonati, Distel, Kiri, Kundali and Skuld. But Yog opened another possebility. Yog, LNey, LCotton, Leonis, Pralinae sound good for a nearly non existing yellow box.

  3. Ea is also a very powerful leader, as he doesn’t you kinda glossed over that part of him, since matching 4+ colors on a no sky fall board (fully solved) isn’t that hard to achieve

  4. Is the mega awoken red odin available yet? I devolved mine thinking I can evolve into that form but I don’t get that choice 😦
