Question Time with Mantastic – June 2020

Introduction

The general gist of Question Time posts are for players to ask various PAD-related questions that do not have a simple/Google-able answer or related article on my website. I do play other games and have often found myself having specific/unique questions about it but have no where to go and can imagine this may hold true for some of my readers.

With that being said, there will be some restrictions on the types of questions I will be answering.

If planning on commenting on a regular basis, it is advantageous to create a WordPress account to both receive notifications as well as giving me a point of reference as to who I am responding to.

Do’s and Don’t

download For the most part, almost any question will be answered, even some non-invasive Off-Topic ones; however, it is best to ask questions that require explanation/why/my personal opinion. The following examples are Fantastic types of questions to ask:

  • Of these options, what is the best Yusuke team I can make for Arena 3?
  • What direction do you think GungHo will take with the 4x HP leads?
  • Can Heart Cross teams be revived and if so, how?

x The following types of questions will not be answered by me either because it has a simple Google-able answer or shows a lack of effort on the reader’s part:

  • Anything that Google/Padx can answer
  • A link to your entire Monster Box and saying “make me a team”

Conclusion

I hope my readers use this opportunity to ask questions that will hopefully improve their overall game play and progression.

Happy Puzzling!

  1. What’s your opinion on the new 6☆ Revo GFEs? Skuld and Kami look the best to me, and Morrigu and Rodin are both good SB sticks.

        1. For myself, I always have a strong preference towards cards who have Super Resists and from the latest batch, Blue Odin’s non-Mega Awoken https://ilmina.com/#/CARD/3391 is pretty great right now due to Super Blind, Rows, Attacker typing (Lamp likes), 4 SB, and 6 turn CD. Thus, Lamp with him on the team means you fully resist Blind and Poison!

Skuld can function in a similar manner with less SB but much more personal damage. Main drawback is the VDP and Super Blind are her SA

As for Kami, I feel her awakenings are solid but her typing may be awkward to fit on most teams

  2. Any tips on farming AA4? I been at it all weekend with limited success. 5 clears so far with countless tries using Aten/Dyer

    Like

    1. I have a clear with nelle x yugi but the better question is which part are you dying to? Are you missing any particular metric/mechanic or is there something else holding you back?

      Like

      1. after getting vdp on dyer and the anti poison skyfall it’s been much easier. Consistent clear with: Aten, SR_Horus, SR_Indra, Ult_Yugi, Shinji(Leaderswap) + Dyer Friend

        Like

  3. how do you feel about the new latents from AA4? Seems like the anti color absorb is most helpful on the friend leader because of the firing order?

    Like

    1. That is correct that colour absorb would be best on friend leader but that also means if you did that for your own card, you would not benefit from it. Bad design that way

With that being said, the VDP latent is by far the best one right now as it makes Rainbow teams much more consistent

  4. Would changes would you make, if any, to the game? Are there any mechanics you think should be removed, or even added?

    Like

    1. Damage absorb should be removed as it has no counter outside of an active skill being used. This is most relevant in arenas as you MUST bring a fujin style active or never be able to clear the dungeon.

One nice cosmetic thing would be achievements that grant something like a Crown but can be grinded for. For example, it could be Titles (kind of like World of Warcraft) in which you achieve some sort of metric and then you get a title such as collect 100 Rainbowpys and now I would be called Mantastic the Rainbowpy. Something like that

  5. *What, for the above comment, sorry about that. I guess I’ll ask another question while I’m still here: How well do you think GungHo has handled powercreep over the years, and do you foresee any trends for future powercreep? Thanks, Mantastic!

    Like

    1. The jumps in powercreep have been okay lately as Transforming is now somewhat the way of the future. But what is more concerning is how dungeons are now designed.

They are less about your puzzling skills and having every possible counter on your team. This is because GH makes dungeons harder by imposing new mechanics but each time they do so, you must have more and more specific cards to clear content. It is now slowly becoming an issue of having the right cards to clear harder content and I feel this is widening over time

  6. How well would Bakura or Dark Menoa work on a Yugi x Nelle team? I know they’re a bit off-type, but I don’t have Hiei and the rest of my devil/balanced damage options are pretty….eh (Dark Magician and base Veroah are probably the best I got).

    Like

    1. The main idea with Hiei on Yugi/Nelle teams is to allow you to sweep floors with a row instead of a VDP thanks to his triple 7 combo

Based on what you have told me, I would lean towards using Dark Magician as he can solve your SB needs and provide double 7 combo while still enjoying the full multipliers from both leaders

      Like

      1. My team right now is Yugi x Nelle with two Fortress Dragons and a Dark Magician and an empty slot that’s been filled so far by Bakura. I do have a second Dark Magician currently in weapon assist form for the extra skill boost that I’m using, which puts the team at 14 base SB with 6 additional effective SB from the haste actives. Does that change anything or would you still suggest using my second Dark Magician to fill the last slot?

        Like

        1. I personally run Bakura on my Yugi / Nelle team. He misses out on 2x for being off-type, but I find he is still one of my strongest damage dealers with a dark VDP and a single poison match, and that llow CD active is very useful. The larger board also makes it more likely that his active will create the 9 dark orbs needed.

          Like

        2. I would be less inclined to run two Dark Magicians as his active is not the best beyond the initial Delay to Transform.

Do you have any other strong offensive or heavy utility options available? Another thing to consider is if your final sub has a modest amount of SB, you may be able to drop 1 Fortress Dragon which would also solve any SBR issue

          Like

          1. My devil/balanced end of the box is pretty limited, unfortunately. I suppose I’ve got SR Anubis and Gungho Reeche sitting around as well, but my strong offense/utility devil options (Bakura, DMenoa, Diaochan mostly) lack balanced typing.

I may just stick with Bakura then as I was lucky enough to pull a dupe for his weapon assist.

            Like

            1. Even if Bakura isn’t Balance, he can still deal spectacular amounts of damage and his 3 SB and Super Resist will always be good. You may still be able to rejuggle a bit if you wanted but make sure you have enough SBR

  7. Currently I have a very shallow monster box. I only started replaying about 2 months ago. I rolled fagan rai and using him as a lead ive been (kinda) clearing end game content. But everyone tells me his weapon assist is one of the best. Is it worth it to evo him and just try to make due with my other slightly less strong teams until I roll a better lead?

    Like

    1. do you have a good use for the weapon assist? if not I feel like you should just keep using him as a lead until you do

      Like

    2. Fagan Rai’s Weapon is indeed tremendously powerful but at the same time, if he is your best leader, use him!

If him being your main leader will enable you to clear more content, that is the best path to take and don’t forget, when you do roll something stronger in the future, you can easily convert Fagan into his Weapon =)

  8. It’s common practice to leave assist cards at skill lv. 1 as to not accidentally override the original skill and to absorb skill delays. Are there assist cards that are better at skill lv. maxed? I wasn’t sure if it was worth skill leveling assist cards with ridiculous maximums like 4810 Chuan or 5319 Eris’s Apple.

    Like

    1. I would suspect THOSE being the ones you might want, as much of a grind it is to achieve. Row-makers, specifically, can often be chained together in a system (typically involving hastes, full board changers, etc.) to make for mindless and speedy farming. Slapping apples and chuans on low-cooldown subs will allow you to pack more versatility and row enhances into these farming teams.

      Like

      1. Assuming you do not need the active, it is best to leave inherits unskilled but with your two examples, they have merits fully skilled up.

As mentioned above, the instant row enables you to quickly sweep a floor and if you use something like Fortress Dragon (3 Haste) you can easily get them recharged

In essence, if unsure, leave them unskilled as it is much easier to skill up compared to un-skill

      1. Impossible to guess anything as Collabs have various licensing issues along with GH balancing profits with cost of bringing the event.

One thing is that Disney is already well known in NA and while that may make you think it should come more easily, it may not be profitable nor garner enough interest from NA as we already know all about Disney and I doubt potential new players wouldn’t be interested enough to start playing because of Disney compared to something like Monster Hunter

  9. Could you do reviews about new cards before they are released? Maybe a weak earlier or something? At a time when a release is going from high speculation to 100% confirmed but not released yet?

Or something like a little prediction into the future?

    Like

    1. Biggest issue is GHNA have announced things sometimes a few hours before it goes live with no build up etc along with never following a predictable schedule from JP

Also, prewriting things can have them be “outdated” if used as is because if we get something later, the meta may have changed etc

      Like

      1. Fair point, but what about things that are confirmed? For example, when an event starts Monday, I often go looking for your analysis on Saturday or Sunday to be prepared for the event, whether I want to roll, etc. If it’s an issue of prep time, that’s understandable, as I’m sure a ton of work goes into each one.

        Like

        1. The upcoming GH Collab event was announced nearly at midnight-ish PST so I will be able to have a chance to write it without scrambling as I do have a few days and a general rule is if it took you a minute to read, it took an hour to write

  10. How would you build a team for grigory clearing A6/AA4? I noticed you built a grig team for AA3 but not A6/AA4.

    Like

    1. My main issue for myself is a lack of Duval who would solve Blinds, ATK buff, and more TPA damage. My AA3 team does reasonable but lacks as much utility overall.

Perhaps a team of Amaterasu, Polowne, Duval, and flex would be reasonable but you have quite a few metrics to try and overcome

  11. Hello Mantastic,

first of all i want to thank you for your hard and awesome work you but day after day in here.
I m following you for 2 years and i m a big fan. I hope you re feeling better and your body is getting stronger and stronger.

    Here is my Question:
I m seeking for help to master AA2 or A6. I m playing this game for a while and i really enjoy it. My puzzle skills are a little bit over average and i have a lot of leaders and subs to choose from (for example, Yugi, Alice, Roah, Lamp, Omega). Unfortunately i m not able to clear AA2. I m trying this for months now and starting to get desperate. I don t understand how to prepare for the dungeon or in generally other dungeons. i tried to read some of the site where explain the dungeon mechanics but i have problems to understand the informations (I don t live in the states and English is not my Main language).
Do you have any advice for me? Or can you write an article to show us all how to prepare and what is necessary to clear the arena dungeons like you did in the AA3 articles?

Thx you so much and stay safe!

    Michael

    1. Glad to hear you enjoy my content =D

As for your question, it would help me better understand where or why you are dying in AA2. Which aspects are giving you problems? Do you Resist enough mechanics along with what team you are using.

One noticeable difference between AA2 and AA3 is Goemon and his exceptionally large preemptive

      1. Hello Mantastic,
i m glad the community could help me master AA2 🙂
My main mistake was that i could read the dungeon (when is the opportunity to stall or when to kill). Is it possible for you to write a dungeon guide for newer content (like beleth?) for example with informations about possible leader and subs to use for specific mechanics? something like you did for aa3 but maybe more specific in generell?
Or maybe its possible to write a guide how to read and understand the sites where you can prepare for the dungeons?

I hope my point is understandable 🙂

        Like

        1. I often upload videos of the dungeon in question (eg. Beleth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v96oLfVvKis)

But one thing that is starting to happen nowadays is that you need to counter basically all mechanics as it is GH’s way of making content harder.

Also, the movesets in PAD are often confusing and even if you can read PADx and understand most of it, they will still do something surprising

          Like

          1. Do you have plans for more or other pad reliable content in the future? Your one of the best resources for Pad, i can t imagine what to do when you quit someday 😉
Have you thought about an monthly updated Tier list for leaders and Subs? I risk sometimes a look on JP sites like Gamewith but everything i can understand is the pictures on the Tierlist 😀
Or What about a pairing section with Leaders who have a perfect symbios outside of to tiers? I remember you did something like years ago with B&J and Yusuke.

      1. I plan on playing A6, and my top leads are Akine, Dyer, Hiyori, Chakeol, Alice, Shinji, Ina, Orphen, Phenom, Hermei, and Nelle. I have subs for all leads, so which one is the best combo?

        Like

          1. Cool! I have enough trade fodder for VIdeal, have Dyer, but I do not have Mega Aten. I know that he is a damage monster, so are there any good substitutes?

            Like

  12. YamaP announced that they’re creating next arena that will hit JP server this month. What would you predict they will make it like? Can’t really make spawns any more tougher to kill by hp/shields so are we going to see more new descended type of gimmicks?

    Like

    1. Impossible to know for sure but if we are going for “themes” a6 was kinda punishing for 7×6 so maybe a7 will have a heavier focus on combos which makes 7×6 better. It makes so sense for GH to continue to punish 7×6 as that would hurt profits etc.

Perhaps including the newer descend bosses such as Raziel might be interesting

  13. How do you feel about the new SR Astaroth? I was thinking of pairing with SR YomiDra and making an all SR team focusing on Dark and Green. Any thoughts on subs or other directions to go with

  14. Hi Mantastic! Thanks for your hard work and great content!

What are your thoughts on the upgrades to the Combo Orb awakening? I’m finding it a lot more useful and fun on my Raoh team for clearing combo shields and easily hitting 7c. Do you think this awakening will be more important going forward?

    Thanks!

    Like

    1. I feel Combo Orb is difficult to fully use because it is orb hungry so without a System it will struggle. Also, the benefit is next turn, not now which can be awkward

Also, there is a high opportunity cost in acquiring a combo orb as you had to forgo making a VDP which is often huge damage

      Like

  15. I am a relatively new player and have a mega aten – dyer team (sherias, odindra, dkali, s indra subs). So far, I struggle clearing new annihilation descended dungeons and have only cleared aa1. Would adding a vdp latent to aten help me clear some of the tougher descended dungeons and aa3, or should I just save it for now?

    Like

    1. A VDP latent will make your life easier against any Void spawn, especially the more fragile ones where Aten can kill on his own.

With that being said, if you have one, use it on Aten as there is not really a better place to use it

  16. Do you think the Devil May Cry Collab will come to NA? Out of all of the cards, which one do you think is worth to chase for? I’m not sure what Gungho was thinking to release Virgil with 729x personal damage.
