Christmas REM Review – December 2021

Introduction

The Christmas REM returns once again to North America and comes with festively dressed characters along with various buffs and evolutions for existing cards. In addition to this, there will be three new monsters to potentially acquire.

As a whole, this event is terribly top-heavy as 80.1% of the total rolling pool is comprised of 5/6-star cards who will provide nothing for even a modestly well developed account. This in turn leads me to believe that this is a Monster Exchange/IAP Orb Skin event as we currently have a lucrative Seasonal Super Godfest going on right now along with PCGF in the near future.

Both these Godfests are significantly better places to spend your Magic Stones and if I had to give a TLDR for Christmas, IAP/buy Xiahou Dun (maybe Osiris ), find a friend Menoa to pair with, Monster Exchange for Gremory if you need a stellar Fire Cleric, and maybe Exchange for Selica .

Due to continuing wrist pains, I have only done Pros & Cons for notable cards and skipped the others.

Bottom rarity quick summary

The bottom rarity should be the main motivation to roll in an event and the following chart shows all the 6 and 5-star Rankings. In total, they comprise 80.1% of the rolling pool and none will offer anything for a modestly developed Box.

Selica – S (New)

Super Enhance Matching awakening coming soon and will be one of their Super Awakenings.

12x ATK when matching 12 or more Orbs of the same Attribute as this monster

It is challenging to fully evaluate Selica’s value due to Super Enhance Matching being new and having no other cards who use this nor leader skills that truly take advantage of this. With that being said, I feel Selica will valuable moving forward due to her potential for large damage and useful base active.

Pros
Cons
  • 4 SB Skill Boost
  • Significant personal damage
    • 45 ( )
  • Super Enhance Matching synergizes with Combo Orb
    • Both need 12 orbs to trigger
    • Excessive personal damage when Super Enhance triggers
      • Still functions well with 10c SA instead
  • 2 turn base cooldown
    • Easy to inherit over
    • Unlock
    • +2 Fire orbs
    • TE buff
  • Respectable LS
    • Just needs to match 6 Fire
  • 4 Fire Rows Fire Row
    • Significant damage boost to everyone
    • Matching 12 orbs to trigger Super Enhance/Combo Orb can be cumbersome
      • Only truly benefits the owning card
      • Other cards may not gain as much value
      • 12 orbs may not always be available
      • May require a new Blob Fire leader to take advantage of
    • Feels like a nice card overall but no true use/home for them for Super Enhance
      • May change in future with new Blob Fire leader
Weapon 1

Pros
Cons
  • SB Skill Boost
  • L
  • Valuable active
    • 3 turn Delay
    • 2 turn Damage Absorb counter
    • 1 aspect will always be valuable
      • Great solution on low CD card
        • Delay F1 then Absorb counter later on
    • Using F1 & later on may require significant stalling
      • May or may not be feasible depending on dungeon
Weapon 2

Pros
Cons
  • Bind Immunity
  • 3 Fire Rows Fire Row
  • 2 Team HP
    • Low base CD
      • Runs risk of accidentally overcharging
      • Effect is low impact for a Weapon

Tamadra – A

Pros
Cons
  • Super Blind Resist
  • Full Cleric active
    • Removes all Binds, Awoken Binds, & Unmatchable
    • 1 turn Haste

  • Opportunity cost of not using Weapons
 Weapon 1

Pros
Cons
  • SB Skill Boost
  • Bind Immunity
  • Full Cleric active

      • Great option when inherited on Full Clerics
        • No fear of over charging
  • Situational Killers
    • 42 44
  • Killers are highly situational
    • No absurdly tanky spawns with those typing atm

Cons
  • 2 Team HP
  • L
  • 2 OE +light orb

      • Pseudo SB
    • 8 turn CD
      • Can inherit on a non-Cleric to make them into one
  • No SB?
    • Haste kind of does that
    • I think this is a solid Weapon all around if you use every aspect

    • Only useful in Coop Button Farming
    • Other stronger Button Bases exist
      • They have higher ATK & 2 Coop Boosts

Conclusion

The Christmas REM is a painfully top-heavy affair due to the poor value found at both the 6 and 5-star rarities that comprise 80.1% of the rolling pool. Furthermore, none of these cards will truly add meaningful value to your Monster Box and while they do have Weapons, none of them will eclipse your current options unless your Box is quite shallow.

Even if your Box is shallow, you will gain significantly more value out of the current Seasonal Super Godfest or the future Player’s Choice Godfest.

With that being said, let me know what you think about this event in the comments down below.

Happy Puzzling!

  1. thoughts on xmas grem vs nezuko? My main red teams are seina or hibiscus/rosalyn.

The haste active is nice for hibiscus to accelerate to 3rd stage, but otherwise it looks like grem wins out in utility and stats?
