Yamatsumi Tournament Guide and Strategies

Introduction

The Yamatsumi Tournament comes to North America 8-9 months after Japan and has the all attributes restriction. All attributes forces to bring at least one (sub)element of fire, water, wood, light, and dark. This could cause you to use less than ideal teams as you may be required to bring subs that are simply there for colour coverage. Thus, you may have to heavily rely on Skill Inheritance for success.

The 8-9 months of delay will most likely result in different teams being used as JP players did not have access to the same cards as we do.

In these ranking dungeons, we are scored based on 3 criteria:

  1. Average combos made: 5,000 points per combo
  2. Time Remaining: 500 points per second remaining
  3. Maximum damage: up to 10,000 points if you hit 40 million.

Be aware that you will incur -5,000 for using an active to kill a floor without matching combos.

JP top 10

The JP top 10 all consisted of that style of Anubis teams that brought Lucifer for true damage along with 5 Sonia inherits to produce bi-colour boards. Unfortunately, most players do not possess 5 Sonias to inherit or the skill to match at that level. In addition, North America has access to significantly more cards than JP did so the teams we use to may greatly differ.

Dungeon Overview

The goal of any ranking tournament is to clear the dungeon as fast as possible and only take one turn on every single floor. Thus, speed is crucial to your success and the less actives you use, the better your score will be as they add additional time to the end result. However, you should always use an active if it can save you from wasting a turn. Continue reading Yamatsumi Tournament Guide and Strategies

Final Fantasy Tournament Strategy and Guide

Introduction

The Final Fantasy Tournament uses the loved/dreaded preset teams. With a preset team, it helps even the playing field as no one can gain an advantage via specific cards or combos. However, it does dramatically cut down on creativity and also results in more “luck” when trying to min-max your score as skyfalls/bad boards will play a massive role in determining how well you place. With this post, I will try my best to help give my readers a slight competitive edge based on my own experience running the dungeon.

This may seem like an amazing leader skill, but you  have to remember you cannot match 3 connected orbs. Thus, every match must be at least 4 and it is wise to match primary colours in a TPA fashion (4 connected) and dead orbs in any number you can.

Based on the floor you encounter, you can make fewer combos in order to save time. Remember, you can always use Noctic’s active skill to increase you combo count by 1.

[Video] Wadatsumi Top 2% Score

Introduction

I managed to record my top 2% ranking score by using Sumire Ult Sumire paired with You Yu You Yu. I am not sure if I will be able to achieve a top 1% score this time, but this was one of my first few attempts and do have room for improvement.

Video

I could min-max better, but this is still a solid performance:

Mantastic Wada

Points to improve upon

When using You Yu as either your friend or your own leader, you need to keep in mind his Balance Killer Balance killer awakening and how he will deal 3x damage to the final boss. Furthermore, you are forced to combo on Wadatsumi any way. Thus, you should be trying to hit the damage cap there instead of on floors with the fire bosses. As such, you can then sweep the easier floors with fewer combos/actives and improve your speed. I decided to swap out my plus-less Skuld for my +297 I&I I&I to provide 2x damage and assist in hitting the 40 million required.

Fantastic Score

I decided to use Yomi Dragon Yomi Dragon for Fantastic due to a less ideal Sumire / You Yu pairing. Furthermore, Fantastic has an Eschamali Eschamali and Goetia Goetia for the numerous dark orb enhances. 36x ATK is still respectable, but it requires more effort to hit the damage cap and I brought Oku Oku to ensure I could hit 40 million on the second floor as I lack a Haku Haku / Akechi Akechi combo.

Fantastic Wada

That was perhaps a bit too much damage and it did cost me additional time.

Conclusion

5 orb, 1 enhance reigns supreme in this ranking tournament due to the removal of Shiva Dragon Shiva D and the fire absorption. I am uncertain if I could achieve another crown this time around as the lack of consistency for both teams hinders my performance. Sometimes I wish I had bought You Yu just for easy ranking crowns.

Let me know what you are using and how well you are scoring.

Wadatsumi Ranking Tournament Strategies and Planning

Introduction

Wadatsumi Tournament is the next installment in the ranking dungeon series and offers players a chance to acquire 10,000 Monster Points and various coloured Py. The goal of these tournaments is to “test” our skill by imposing a scoring system to determine your percentile ranking. We may not be chasing gold medals and the podium in Rio, but we are still champions and some of us will even walk away with a shiny new hat.

In these ranking dungeons, we are scored based on 3 criteria:

  1. Average combos made: 5,000 points per combo
  2. Time Remaining: 500 points per second remaining
  3. Maximum damage: up to 10,000 points if you hit 40 million.

No You Yu? No Problem, Kind Of…

Introduction

So I have been tirelessly trying to reach my second crown on Mantastic and first on Fantastic through the Satan Ranking Tournament. In my previous POST, I go over all the possible top tier team compositions as well as my tentative strategies for the dungeon as a whole. I was even able to post a 125k+ score with the water-based DQXQ Awoken DQXQ and a helpful video as reference. However, this proved to be insufficient due to the surge of You Yu You Yu who are better able to hit the damage cap and go faster.

Ups and downs with a touch of heartbreak

I continued to throw stamina and stones at Satan to improve upon my water DQXQ team’s score and I was successful on both my accounts:

126.9k
Was 0.6 on Wednesday night

Fantastic High Score

And these are pretty Fantastic scores and I feel that I hit the relative cap for DQXQ with Mantastic as I it will be incredibly challenging to improve upon that score. Unfortunately, neither of these scores are sitting in the top 1% due to the You Yu nation pushing the cut off above 127,500.

A change of plan

[Video] Satan Ranking Tournament 125,302 Score

Introduction

So I stayed up late last night playing the Satan Ranking Tournament using the strategies theory crafted in my Previous Post. If you have not read that already, I strongly encourage you to go through it as it will contain more details and other viable team options.

This is my current high score and I will be updating with a new video if I should surpass it.

125,302 score video

I am in love with the new overlay and let me know what you think of it!

125k high score

Ways to improve your score

Time

It may seem like commonsense, but your time remaining is incredibly important as each second counts for 500 points. If I was able to remove those few brief pauses of hesitation, I could be 2 seconds faster and have 1,000 more points. The main drawback of using DQXQ Awoken DQXQ is the acrobatics and extra time required to form a row with 3 other elemental matches. On the bright side, the preemptives give us additional time to plan our movements due to the extra animations.

Hit damage cap

The damage cap for an additional 10,000 points is a total of 40 million. You must try your best to hit that because there will be players who make the same number of average combos and time remaining. Thus, to guarantee your position, you must hit over 40 million. Thankfully, with the skyfall buff and single fire floor, you should be able to easily achieve that.

131M dmg
A bit excessive damage…
Bring orb changers, not board changer/random orb generators

This is perhaps a little nitty-gritty, but when trying to min max your score, you need to save as much time as possible. You ideally want to use as few actives as possible as it only adds extra time. However, if you must use an orb changer, it is better to bring an orb changer instead of a board changer or someone who randomly creates X number of orbs. This is because there will be an element of planning between each floor and you can plan your move when you know exactly where the orbs will be post-active. As such, board changers and random orb generators will ruin your planning as the end result cannot be predicted.

Conclusion

Hopefully this video and subsequent post provides some fresh inspiration for your ranking dungeon endeavors. I strongly encourage each and everyone of you to clear the dungeon for the magic stone and participation rewards. I only ask you do not exceed my score as I am so close to hitting the top 1% and my second crown.

10MM Ranking Tournament Strategies

Quick! Everyone grab your Shiva Dragons Shiva D for a top 1% ranking and shiny hat. Wait…Awoken Horus Horus, what are you doing here? Welcome to the 10 Million Downloads Ranking Tournament that features a pre-set rainbow team that somewhat evens the playing field as everyone is forced to use the same team. As such, there will be no theory crafting component, but instead I will do a brief run down of the dungeon and my strategies used to achieve a high score. All players should complete this ranking dungeon due to the ease due to the floors not attacking and having a full hypermaxed team. Lastly, you have a chance at acquiring a spirit jewel or an evolved Fagan and a hefty amount of rank experience.

Ranking dungeon scoring criteria

In these ranking dungeons, we are scored based on 3 criteria:

  1. Average combos made: 5,000 points per combo
  2. Time Remaining: 500 points per second remaining
  3. Maximum damage: up to 10,000 points if you hit 40 million.

With these in mind, you want to plan/match as quickly as possible to score higher while sweeping every floor. A higher amount of combos will be favourable and needed to burst through several of the floors.

With Awoken Horus as your leader, you must be able to consistently match 4 different colours (ideally 5) to trigger your damage multiplier. Furthermore, using an active grants a significant damage boost and I will go into detail after the dungeon introduction as to where you should be using your actives. Your strongest element is fire because both Horus and Antares sharing the fire element. Dark is your second strongest due to the sub colour from Horus and the high attack on Castor. You can utilize fire and dark TPA for even more damage. Lastly, each of your subs convert the useless heart orbs into a usable colour while providing 1 turn of haste.

Dungeon at a glance

The dungeon consists of 6 floors that will not attack you and simply stare at your while you play.

Floor Hp/defence Active to use
 1 Awoken Leilan 1,225,486 / 376 Horus
2  Awoken Karin 1,225,486 / 376 Spica
 3 MeiMei 188,889/*977,778*  Antares
 4 Haku 1,225,486 / 376  Horus
 5 Sakuya 4,031,042 / 376  Alrescha
 6 Fagan 4,968,040 / 653  Castor Horus

With the exception of Meimei on floor 3, all floors simply have a specific amount of health you need to nuke down. Meimei has nearly 1 million defence, and you must use Antares to generate more fire orbs (they will be enhanced due to the countless +heart awakenings on the team) and you simply need to match your 5 colours and fire TPA to pierce through. The rest of the floors are require an active of some sort to proc your additional damage, but try to use Spica on floor 2 to generate enough wood orbs to deal with the water based Karin. Horus used on floor 1 will be ready again for the boss.

Do note that the actives listed per floor are simply a guideline, you may have to deviate if things do not go according to plan, but it helps to have a template to autopilot off of.

Strategy

The strategy is quite straightforward due to a lack of dungeon mechanics and is mostly a test of your rainbow matching skills. If you can follow the active usage chart above, you should be able to sweep every floor without too much difficulty. The key to scoring high is being able to plan and execute your matches quickly. You only have access to 2 time extend Time Extend awakenings which may feel frustrating and requires you to be precise in your matching.

Video

My top 1.8% ranking play through that has some room for improvement but should at least give some inspiration for achieving a high score. There is no voice-over as there is not much to say and mostly consists of me rambling to myself or swearing. Upon reflection, I should have dropped the orb sooner on the first few floors to save a few extra seconds.

Conclusion

Maybe I will get a hat this time, but it is going to require a modest amount of RNG to score higher as the max damage is where a large portion of your points can come from. Perhaps if I can save Antares for a later floor, I may be able to burst higher, but will still require more runs to do so.

My Crowning Achievement!

Most people love Fridays and this Friday was extra special because I got my first Ranking Dungeon Crown! I have constantly floated around 2-4% in all the previous ranking dungeons as I lack the ideal teams required for 1%. It has generally been both Shiva Shiva D and Ra Ra Dragon Dragon dominating the charts; however, with the Athena Ranking dungeon, I only had to compete against Shiva Dragons Shiva D which removed some of my competition. The dungeon also favoured brute speed over combos and this plays into one of my strengths as I am able to manipulate orbs quickly and plan my path with minimal thinking.

Dtron 102k

What perhaps makes this victory sweeter is that I used a somewhat unconventional team and had to be quite creative in order to compete with an unconditional 25x multiplier. You can read more about the strategy I used HERE.

Crown rank

Hopefully everyone else is having a Fantastic Friday and I cannot stop saying “I have a hat / I have a crown” while mimicking a hat placing action to anyone I encounter in the real world (which is thankfully very few people). I am now regretting my initial starter dragon choice as blue is my favourite colour and wonder if I could change it somehow…
