Choosing your Free Weekly 6-star Godfest Exclusive

Introduction

Today marks the start of a tremendously exciting event as each week players will receive one (two with PAD Pass) 6* Fest Exchangeable Medal to be used on any 6-star Godfest Exclusive (GFE).

These can be found within the Monster Exchange tab and each week the line up of Godfest Exclusives will rotate. Just be aware that you can use these Fest Exchangeable Medals any week and can even do them all in week 4 if that proves to be the ideal for your Monster Box.

As a general blanket statement, the best course of action is to acquire cards you currently do not have as a brand new card may often fill holes in a given Monster Box along with many of the 6-star GFE holding significant value.

With this in mind, I will list the GFE I feel will provide the most value with the presumption that you own absolutely nothing. Remember, a new card will often outpace a duplicate.

Weekly line up

The following image shows the weekly rotation for the featured GFE but it should also be noted that a card will not show up again once their week has passed. This means trading right away for the cards you need but also trying to plan out who you actually want to acquire. Continue reading Choosing your Free Weekly 6-star Godfest Exclusive

November 25 New Evolutions – MA Raijin, Fujin, & More

Introduction

One wonderful aspect of PAD is how older cards receive new evolutions that can completely overhaul their kit and allows them to become top-tier monsters.

As such, players should never sell or Trade away their only copy of a given card because there is always the chance it will receive a new and powerful evolution in the future.

This holds true for the latest batch of new evolutions as Raijin has now become a tremendously valuable card due to her potent Leader Skill and personal damage. While Raijin is one of the stars of this new wave of cards, there are several others worth pursuing and this article will highlight the strengths and weaknesses for the new Evolutions found within this update.

Official GHNA post can be found HERE.

New Monster Upgrades – July 16, 2020

Introduction

One of the nicest things about Puzzle and Dragons is the fact that older cards are often buffed after their release. This helps keep older cards relevant for longer periods of time and while none of these are new evolutions, the buffs can sometimes be meaningful.

As such, this article will take a look at all of the buffs received during this latest update.

[Meta Snapshots] Damage Absorption was a Mistake in Arena-Style Content

Introduction

Puzzle and Dragons is one of the most complex and content heavy games on the market due to the numerous years it has been available. For more veteran players, many aspects may feel like second nature, but when you take a step back and think about Resolve, Weapon Assists, Super Awakenings, Ranking Dungeons, or even simpler things such as Team Building, one may realize there is so much going on.

Due to the sheer volume of content available it is inevitable some mechanics will be better received compared to others but one thing GungHo tends to reuse older mechanics but make it harder by ramping up the numbers or combining several aspects at the same time.

Sadly, Damage Absorption is one mechanic that has been kept around and is the worst designed ability in Puzzle and Dragons. This is because the HP values have kept going up along with damage output which makes it impossible to not hit over the threshold without an active skill being used. As a result, every team must bring at least 1 Damage Absorption Void active in order to actually finish a dungeon in this day and age. While more options have become available over time, the fact that you need an active to counter this in order to pass a dungeon is not a fun way to play the game.

Brief history of PAD dungeons

Puzzle and Dragons is one of the oldest and deepest mobile games on the market. Like any game, PAD started out reasonably simple and the main appeal was the orb matching component. As such, the spawns found within dungeons were relatively static in that they only had a health value, defense, and a single attack value. Actives that Directly Counter New/Dangerous Mechanics are Bad in the Long Run

Introduction

Titles are hard and this article will be exploring an idea that has been floating around in my head for some time. Like any longstanding game, new and challenging content has to be released to keep things interesting and we have seen some bizarre mechanics over the years. Some are more challenging compared to others but at least initially, had several ways to overcome them.

Sadly, I feel we may be starting down a less than ideal path due to GungHo releasing a new/dangerous mechanic and then unveiling a card who’s active can directly counter it. As such, players can now counter said mechanic and they can tune it upwards to the point where you must have the active or you lose.

In my opinion, this is not a good game design as it forces players to have these direct counters or simply lose the dungeon. This tends to be most punishing in longer content where one needs to cover so many mechanics already.

This article will explore my opinions on this matter and how it is possible to correct these problems before it gets out of hand.

Damage Absorb & Fujin

Damage Absorb (pink shield) is one of the worst mechanics at this point in time due to how “unfun” and impossible it is to overcome without a Fujin style active. Continue reading Actives that Directly Counter New/Dangerous Mechanics are Bad in the Long Run

Ideal Ranking Tournament Strategies

Introduction

Ranking Dungeons will return to North America this Monday with the Fixed Leaders, Ideal Tournament. This tournament will force players to use Light Ideal as a leader but can bring any sub.

This gives the illusion of a Fixed Team, but heavily favours those who have deep Monster Boxes as it places a heavy emphasis on Skill Boosts to have Fujin ready in time.

To compensate for this, the dungeon is only 5 floors long which means Combos are heavily rewarded which means a lucky Skyfall will result in a significantly higher score.

On the bright side, the cutoff for a Crown is 7%.

Just be aware that the Forced Colour Skyfall + Orb Refresh Strategy no longer works for this Ranking. Due to this, our cutoff will be lower compared to JP to the point where it may be challenging to predict the final value.

Score breakdown

In Ranking Dungeons, players are scored based on the following:

  • Each Combo is worth 5,000 points
  • Each second remaining is worth 500 points
  • Hitting 40 Million damage is 10,000 points
  • Each active used to kill a floor (no combo made) is -5,000 points

April 14-15 Godfest Overview

 Godfest Basics

The format for Godfests has been dramatically changed through their REM Renewal along with Full Disclosure of Rolling Rates. These changes dramatically improve your chances of rolling a specific card as the pool of available monsters is significantly smaller as only a portion of the all possible monsters are featured at a given time. This is great news for players as you are better able to focus your Magic Stones on key cards.

Godfests no longer advertise “rate increases” and instead Highlighted specific cards along with 6* Godfest Exclusives being available. As such, these events are the best time to roll the REM as the current meta is heavily favouring these rare and elusive monsters.

Rolling rates may change or vary with each Godfest event and some 6* GFE may have higher rolling rates.

Introduction

The upcoming Godfest begins on April 14 and runs until April 15 and will once again feature twenty 6-star Godfest Exclusives. While the overall roster is reasonable overall, the GHNA Facebook page annoucned that Heroine REM will return this coming Monday.

With this in mind, it is better to hold off rolling in this Godfest and instead spend your Magic Stones on Heroine as it does hold numerous key and powerful cards. Just remember that Godfests will always be here and this current roster is average overall.

On a different note, the Twitch Stream will also announce the winner of the MP Survey which may also influence the decision to roll in future Godfests. On a somewhat side note, if you are desperate for MP, Heroine has a better ratio of MP to Stone consumption if selling off rolls.

As with any Godfest, the decision of whether to roll or not will be dependent on your own Monster Box and individual needs.

MP Shop Survey & Future GFE Trading Post

Introduction

GungHo North America has released the highly anticipated Monster Point Shop Survey that will enable the player base to vote for a specific 6* GFE to be featured for purchase for a limited time. You can purchase this card as many times as you wish.

This is an exciting time and is akin to Player’s Choice Godfest in which there will be controversy and players telling you to vote for XYZ cards. Naturally, what may be good for certain boxes may be inappropriate for yourself and it is still best to vote for what can benefit you the most. However, your vote should be as future-proof as possible as you want to have value from your purchase many months down the road.

This article will summarize who I feel will be the top voted cards as well as discussing the invaluable Future GFE Trading Post that JP enjoys.

You can vote for your favourite card HERE.

Regardless of the outcome I strongly discourage selling your 6* GFE fro 50,000 Monster Points as they are currently receiving new evolutions along with having the capability to trade four (200,000 MP) for a card of your choice. Continue reading MP Shop Survey & Future GFE Trading Post

March 31 – April 1 Godfest Overview plus Preview for future Kaede, Fujin, and Raijin Evolutions

 Godfest Basics

Introduction

The upcoming Godfest begins on March 31st and runs until April 1st and will once again feature twenty 6-star GFE. This current line up is reasonable overall but just remember that you only have to wait around 2 weeks for another Godfest to come back.

With that being said, it may be advantageous to wait for the official GungHo NA stream on Friday evening in case they tease a new Collab or Seasonal REM. This is because Puzzle and Dragons is slowly becoming more dependent on rare Collab cards and it may be best to save your Magic Stones for those events.

On the bright side, all players will receive a free Rank 50 roll for this Godfest.

As with any Godfest, the decision of whether to roll or not will be dependent on your own Monster Box and individual needs.

Fujin & Raijin Review and Analysis

Introduction

Two new 6-star Godfest Exclusives are coming to North America and both push Powercreep to a new level. Every game requires a certain element of Powercreep to keep things interesting, but it should advance at a steady march, not by giant leaps and bounds. While Raijin 3416 is unique and powerful in her own right, she is at least not overwhelming in what she does unlike Fujin 3414.

I liken Fujin’s level of Powercreep to that of a Gemstone Princess (far too powerful in their own right) and dearly hope it does not set  a presedence for future dungeon spawns. With that being said, once you own a Fujin, your PAD life will never be the same again.
