I am in the process of updating this list over the next week or two and work from the top down so somethings will still be outdated/missing in the meantime.
Introduction
Due to the ever changing dynamic of team building through Skill Inheritance, team building has either become more flexible or more rigid. It becomes more flexible due to the fact that you can use almost any card as a sub and fill in the blanks via inheritance. However, this does eventually lead to a more rigid team building experience as you will end up using similar powerful bases and supplementing with appropriate assists.
As such, I have been trying to determine how I can have this list reflect both aspects of team building. Listing subs that fulfill specific roles is helpful, but may become misleading once you begin to acquire more cards to play around with. Thus, I will try my best to list higher tier subs along with other options and include a massive inheritance chart at the beginning you can use to fill in the gaps.
When deciding which leader and team you want to invest in, you ideally want to find a balance between a deep and diverse sub pool combined with a love for their playstyle that suits your personality and matching skills. Even leaders who are not popular in the meta are capable of clearing high end content provided you have a synergetic team and passion for their gameplay.
Furthermore, you should try to balance the subs/actives you bring to ensure a healthy mixture of quick orb changers, damage enhancing, and defensive utility. When trying to determine if you require a bind clearing sub, you must take into account how dangerous the bind is and whether you can stall through it or avoid it. If you are able to avoid the bind by bursting through the boss before they are able to attack, it may be best to do so as bind clearing subs tend to bring little to the party aside from their active. Lastly, leaders with higher multipliers are more reliant on consistency and survivability over offensive actives as the sheer strength of their leader skill can sweep most floors.

Popular leaders sorted by category
When trying to find a particular leader in this post, it is best to use the ctrl + F (search) feature. Otherwise, the leaders are colour sorted in no particular order. Due to the sheer size of this ever growing list, I may have trimmed out lesser leaders and simply put their names alongside other cards that are similar to them (eg. placing other rainbow leaders alongside Ra if similar).
I am not including the button farming coop teams.

Skill Inheritance
Skill Inheritance has become a vital part of the Puzzle and Dragons meta as it allows you to utilize desirable active skills from cards that would not be ideal to run as subs. This also enables you to better customize your team to your liking and address any dangerous mechanic the dungeon can throw at you. I encourage you to read my revamped Skill Inheritance Guide to better understand all the changes that have been made and how to better utilize this mechanic.
Below is for the most part, a full overview of the various inheritance options you can use sorted by categories. For full board changers, you can utilize off-colour inherits provided they generate your desired element. However, if possible, you should try to use same attribute inherit and base to take advantage of the stat transfer feature.

Popular leaders and the sub list:

Reincarnated Shiva
49x ATK / 4x RCV
Shiva is a relatively easy to use leader as you are reliant on TPA
and have a scaling combo multiplier. While it does take 7 combos to cap on damage, you can still match a TPA with fewer and sweep through most content. Fully maxed out Shivas will hit for about 2 million damage with a single fire TPA and a total of 7 combos. You should be running the +HP Badge while prioritizing TPA cards.

Xiang Mei

2.25x HP / 81x ATK healer types
Xiang Mei has quickly fallen out of the Meta due to the power of Heart Crosses. This is not to say she cannot clear content, but she is simply slower, more restrictive, and lacks consistency in end game content. Please read my Full Review for more detailed information.
Staple subs:
Xiang Mei fills up your sub slot and becomes reliant on Skill Inheritance to shine while providing haste and heart orb generation.
Gadius is unbindable and provides heart and fire orb generation with his full board changer and recover bind
awakening. Just be careful as he lacks a skill bind resist
awakening.
Uriel is another essential sub who possess a double orb changer to spawn fire and heal orbs. Has perfect synergy with Gadius’s full board changer. Dupes are encouraged.
Viable subs:
Valen provides a 30% damage reduction shield for 4 turns on a 6-turn cooldown should you require damage mitigation. With Xiang Mei’s haste component, you an have nearly 100% uptime.
Laila produces full horizontal line of fire orbs at the bottom row of the board. This enables you to automatically form a row, just be careful you have sufficient heart orbs present.
Red Riding Hood has a water to heart orb active along a 3-turn bind clear.
Christmas Echidna (or regular Echidna
) provides 3 turns of delay which becomes vital when dealing with dangerous bosses who have either resolve/perseverance or dangerous kill mechanics
Party Fox, Mitsuki (NY REM) promises a festive time with her double orb to heart active and 1 turn haste. Can also use the regular Mitsuki
from the REM.
Mamiya comes from the Fist of the North Star Collab and features a jammer and water to fire orb changer along with 20% reduction to dark damage via 4
awakenings.
Kiriko is a rare pull from the Shinarabansho Choco Collab and provides a full board changer into fire, light, and heart orbs.

Gadius
1.82x HP Dragon type
42.25x ATK (
and heart orb reliant)
Gadius is quite outdated due to the fact that far stronger options exist. However, if you are keen on playing him, it can still work.

Shiva Dragon
39x ATK 6.25x RCV for Fire Gods
Shiva Dragon is a premiere speed farming leader that has an unconditional 39x ATK to fire Gods. You are able to stack either TPA or rows and are able to deal spectacular damage with minimal effort. There is no “perfect” team for him and it is mostly using the cards that you have been given to succeed while countering the dungeon mechanics. Due to your amazing RCV, you can easily stall for skills.

Happy Puzzling!
I feel like it’s worth mentioning that it’s an incredibly bad idea to use a Verdandi+Artemis active skill combo on a Bastet team, as this will change all orbs on the board to wood orbs, and when your’e using a combo leader, that isn’t ever going to help you. Otherwise, this seems to be a pretty decent list that I could see being very useful to many players! I suppose one just needs to be wary of conflicts between active skills like that.

Very good point and I removed Artemis! I was probably in C/P mode and it worked for other leaders XD Thank you for spotting =)

He has kind of fallen off the radar due to superior wood teams, powercreep (no HP multiplier compared to Dtron) so I decided to not include him

GZL has also fallen out of favor due to the lack of HP and just the fact that you can’t pull him nowadays.

Hmmm…what about Awoken Amaterasu? She’s not as popular since Arena and C9/10 are generally beyond her reach, but if an enemy’s regular non-rage attacks can’t KO her you literally can’t die so long as you match. I use her to regularly clear C1 – C8 (sometimes up to C7 only) and she can farm almost every single descend (and what she can’t, Thoria cleans up nicely). If you have lux subs such as Venus and Raphael then you can even barrel through C9/C10 and with a new Physical/Healer option in Sun Wukong, HP is becoming more and more of an available commodity for her (plus she herself has almost 5,000 HP when hypered).
I’d say that she isn’t ever going to go beyond her niche, unlike some other teams mentioned here that can get more and more powerful as they get more subs. But what she does do, she does beyond expectations. She’s been sitting in the A tier of many JP tierlists for the longest time now because she’s not good enough to be in S but she’s too good to be dropped.

Very good points raised and I am in the process of adding a healer (and A Ama) section accordingly =)
I am grateful for comments as I am still mortal (working on that part) and I do sometimes overlook things, especially leads I do not own/use.
Thanks again!

A.Ama and LZL are quite OP 20x and when LZL get its buff it will be a 24x atk i use her to clear most off the descended only the legend one cuz i am not confident in my skill and my cards are at lvl 50-70 except A.Ama but for most dungeons and descended she is enough to clear with her i use A.Ama,L.Valk, Fuu,Kali,New year Sandalphon with friend leader LZL as a Team

Very nice! It’s good to hear more people are using healer teams as they are quite powerful and surprisingly durable as you can mix and match to increase your damage or survivability as needed. Hope your progress continues through the next set of challenge dungeons!

some challenge one i can do but only drawback is the HP but when hypermaxed will be sweet just thinking to change some of thee subs for a A.Venus currently i work on my A.Sakuya but Kouryu is a pain i got him after i needed 2 stones but hiss uevo and i work on my Sarasvati team that is Sarasvati,B.Valk,Bankai Andromeda,Scheat & A.I&I (just need to finish DQ Hera and need 25 more cost) with a A.Isis or Sarasvati friend lead would be sweet

Well it sounds like you have a game plan! Have you tried using A.Sakuya? She is quite powerful and can clear nearly all the content in the game

i tried her a bit but i have not the subs to make a stable team for A.Sakuya i want to use A.Sakuya,Kali,L.Valk,A.Susano(currently on working evolve him) and A.Venus I can try to switch some of them to Apollo (wait for A.Apollo),NY Sandalphon,A.Ama
Well i have some idea about certain team I even try to finish my Hathor and wait for A.Artemis (A.Artemis can be a nice tank ATK team with the right subs) and i have mostly a TPA plays style other thing is i have mostly a 4combo average without TE
but when u want u can try to suggest a nice A.Sakuya team for me when u want
LikeLike
That is a pretty solid team thus far and she will take lots of time to perfect as you ideally need to make 7 combos while activating your 4 colours. Even if you do not use her as a lead, she can make a fantastic sub as a bind clearer who brings gravity. This post links to Sakuya’s guide along with her sub pool too. From there you can list your subs and I can help team build

And no love for Light Zhuge Liang? 🙂
I have one Hyper maxed that paired with Awoken Amaterasu is doing some damage lately (7.5x~20x).
I know it’s not much, but as a new player i don’t have skill to make many combos(yet) so I’m keeping my Isis and Ra for a possible future.
My subs are LValk, Da Qiao, Tornado and the last spot is alternated between Sandalphon, or Arcline.
Yes…I missing Raphael and unfortunately Ariel is not a Healer.
by the way, a little off topic, but from these subs, what would be a good choice to the next +297 (Valk? at long term speaking)
But don’t bother writing about LZL, no one seems to like him anyway :O

Most people are scared to run leaders who requires 100% HP to deal damage. However, I added him into my mix and match with the healers to go along with Awoken Ama
Your team listed sounds solid as you have multiple orb changers and can use until you find a better 4th sub
Valkyrie tends to have the most flexibility in terms of potential teams she can sub on as she can make a wonderful Awoken Ra sub (covers wood and removes hearts)
And thank you for your feedback as well as kind words =)

How about Gronia? Haha.

Will add in a small section for her too, its just unfortunate she is more restrictive

Yea, I use Gronia quite a bit and I realized her sub-pool is quite small compared to others I use (DMeta, say). Just wanted to see what your opinions are on her subs and sub combos, especially now she buffs Balanced types now in addition to Dragon.

Added in a section for Gronia, to say the least her sub pool depth is quite limited, but she can form some powerful teams with very restrictive REM

Thank you for all of your work on this. I have been blessed from God rolls of late and am trying to figure out what my best teams to focus on next should be. I current use an awoken shiva team and am debating on what my next lead should be. I am looking into both awoken lucifer and Yomi dragon (will need to purchase when it comes around again) with maybe Pandora a third option. Here is where I need help as I am just getting into playing the game at the higher difficulties, I think I have too many quality subs and I need help focusing on where to start. Really not meaning this to be a humble brag, but here is a list of what I have and am really looking for help as to where to start to narrow it down:
Dark izanami
Dark Kali
Zaerog
Dark Metatron
Eschamali
Awoken lucifer x2
Okuninushi
Grisar
Awoken hades
D/D Pandora (keeping this to sub on both luci and yomidra teams unless I should change to D/R)
D/D Haku
D/B Haku
Anubis
Persephone
Caster
Dark Valk
Awoken Yomi
Akechi
Awoken Loki
Zuoh
My trouble comes in when if I try to match to what I see you did on arena 1 for example, you list options for replacements but not what your ideal cards would be. Any help focusing my attention would be greatly appreciated. Obviously hyper maxing my awoken luci and yomidra when I get it will need to happen but what cards to focus on next is what I am looking for assistance.
LikeLike
You definitely have a lot of amazing dark monsters! I would say both Lucifer and Yomi D are easier to use (in both team building and matching) compared to Awoken Pandora. In terms of sub that can be used well on both teams:
Yomi Dragon – Probably the best thing to hyper max and invest in right away as he will be used everywhere/all the time
Eschamali – One of the best and rarest subs and is a suitable replacement for Haku as a means to remove poison orbs
Akechi – Has a superior active to Pandora and has the crucial enhance for Yomi D
Do those 3 for now and see how you enjoy the playstyle/feel for the team.
In regards to ideal Arena team, I would drop my Haku for Eschamali and Pandora for Akechi as they are superior replacements. Loki and Yomi D are manditory
Hope this helps =D

What about Antares as well as Spica or Castor? I have cleared some C10s with my Antares team.
Antares/Ame/DIza/Yamato/Uriel/Antares worked well for the last one shot-challenge 10. It’s row based instead of the TPA Spica that can work, but it does wonders when it’s plussed. Others have done similar if not more than I have so it’s a viable lead.
LikeLike
Spica and Castor have been mentioned and are more widely use compared to Antares. I am not denying Antares’s power, just her sub pool and options are smaller compared to her wood and dark cousins.

I would suggest adding Awoken Haku and (maybe Awoken Mei Mei) to the tank teams. Though they aren’t fully “Tank” teams, Haku and Mei Mei are still able to clear a majority of content in the game. As a matter of fact, Haku is a popular choice for Wadatsumi, and I actually managed to clear level 9 of the previous One Shot challenge with Haku. The team I used/use is Haku/DIza/Beach Pandora/Oku/Yomi/Haku.
Other subs would include Yomi dragon for bind clear and Loki for damage enhance. Only Beach Pandora and UEvo Pandora are really suited for Haku too, as Haku is better off focusing on TPAs. Hope this helps.
Also, It must have been heartbreaking to write all of this out. Props and Kudos to you man.

Also, orb changing combos are not reccomended for Awoken Anubis. For example, the chances of a Haku -> Akechi combo yielding 9 or more combos is quite low.

Haku and Mei Mei can be viable leaders, but they are mostly used for niche situations. Furthermore, Castor and Spica resist essentially the same amount, but include one extra coluor along with a higher multiplier (albeit small, but can focus on more of those orbs due to no other colour requirements).
Yes this was very challenging to put together. When editing in HTML, it lags my poor old laptop as there is just so much information. However, it was worthwhile in the end as this will be a great resource moving forward

Big fan of Kanna teams, especially partnered with New Years Kanna. A team of haste members with short cool downs is a powerhouse! I use 3 tsubaki and Pollux, but Pollux can be swapped out for a utility.

Yeah Kanna is a great speed farming lead, but not too much applications for end game content. She does however make a fasntastic sub on rainbow teams

Any chance for a list of Fenrir team subs since we just got all those new Jammer makers? I have a couple Fenrirs and 2 of the water/jammer makers & the fire/jammer maker so I may have enough of a team to start with but I’m not sure whet to fill the extra slots with. I’m thinking Fenrir, Fenrir, Denebola, D Valk, Maybe awoken panda, Friend Fenrir
LikeLike
Still may not be enough jammer generation to justify the effort/reward of Fenrir. Perhaps when his leader skill buff goes live in NA will that be more justified. For now, he is just awkward and requiring excessive amounts of work to little pay off.
You could tinker with that team as you do have some jammer generation, but it may still feel lackluster, especially compared to your Awoken Pandora team

First off, thank you so much for this amazing list.
What about the norns as leaders? I’m working on evo mats and team cost for A. Bastet, but my Urd team is what took me though T6 dungeons.
LikeLike
The norns are okay as leaders, but are outclassed by other leads of the same colour. You can still use them, but may hit a wall when facing the harder descends
Urd plays like Shiva but prioritizes fire/water subs
Skuld is not in a good place overall due to water teams generally being row based
Verdandi is strong, but less powerful than Bastet (both use similar TPA oriented subs)

Hey I’m currently running an ABastet team w/ Liu Bei, AKushi, AMeimei, and Perseus as my main subs. Ik im missing Vishnu for that perfect Bastet team, but do you think I should switch anyone else in? My other greens include Sylvie, two other meimeis, Verandi, aceres, susano, Astaroth, aDrake.
Also I don’t think my current Bastet team can clear the hardest dungeons so I have two other plans ready but not sure which to use. Do you think I should go do Sylvia/freyja with my above subs? I also have AThor and I can run AThor/Saria but I’m missing key light subs such as Wukong and Apollo (tho I do have two DqXQ, two Venuses, AAma, two Ras, Ganesha, Valks, izanagi, and two LMetas). Thanks so much.

Awoken Susano is almost always a better choice than Kush due to his double TPA and stronger active. 50% 3 turns > 75% 1 turn. Granted you lose a SBR, but the 2 from Perseus compensates. If you do not need a shield, you should strongly consider bringing Sylvie as her tri-element board change generates hearts and wood along with her fantastic 2x TPA and high base attack. Verdandi can also be used instead of perseus, but just be careful of your SBR
Mono wood-row team with Sylvie/Freyja leads can work for you as you have strong options such A. Astaroth, Liu Bei, Perseus, Verdandi (the OE help on a team that has none) and I prefer Verd over Meimei for row teams due to the heart generation.
Your light team can use 2x DQXQ, Venus, Valk and that can clear lots of content as you have massive burst potential due to heart break from valk and enhance with venus.
Hope this helps =)

Can you update Xiang Mei’s subs on this lead? Her subs and sample teams look like you just copy/pasted Gadius teams, and it’s not as flexible because of the healer typing requirement. Most of the subs you listed has no healer typing. Mamiya wasn’t even listed as a viable skill bind resist sub.
LikeLike
Xiang Mei has her own section, but it looks different compared to the others due to her having such a restricted sub pool. Instead, I talk briefly about one along with a link at the top to her article.
Gadius is immediately after her and that is perhaps where you saw the bleeding of his section and hers. I put a line to better distinguish where she ends and Gadius begins

Ammy and Panda player here, with some sub suggestions
Ammy: Since getting an A. Apollo my tpa Ammy team is like fifty percent stronger, wish I had two.
Panda: for bind clearers, you should mention Napoleon (although he’s not out yet, not sure if that matters), and I think the best bind clear for panda right now is probably Lu Bu with dark dragon swordsman skill inherited on, since he’s the only unbindable dark devil I can think of that also has a bind clear awakening, which is probably more useful than an active, considering pandas and usually Akechi are on the team. I get that his normal active is counter intuitive to a tank team, but it’s not like you need to use it till the end, and that’s why I recommend dds, since six turns is reasonable.

Thanks for the reminder of Awoken Apollo =) I made this a while ago before his release and added him in.
I am not sure how I will handle the Skill Inheritance component for this post and am going through my SI post as we speak since it will be released shortly, but thank you for the advice! And Lubu’s active is almost always a sure sweep on that floor so the HP reset to 1 is not as horrible as it seems like you said

what do you think about a Lakshmi, ryune,Andromeda,A.Isis, A.I&I as a team ? it has 5 SBR, 9 Water Row, a bindd clear with a shield and a ATK`boost for the dmg

The ATK boost is largely unneeded outside of Arena level content. You would be better served with another water/heart orb generator. Isis is helpful, but you probably want to inherit a different active onto her as well as your Lakshmi leaders.
Ryune and Andromeda are super star subs =)

that yes i want to give my isis the ichigo skill and lakshmi i will give her my gabriel skill

In terms of non-type-restrictive rainbow teams, who’s better as a shield: A. Susano (not sure why GungHo didn’t spell it like Susanoo or Susano’o), Indra, or Diza? Or is there a better one?
LikeLike
All 3 are great for different scenarios. Indra is the largest and essentially ensures you cannot die. Susano is the mid point, but also brings haste and he covers 2 awkward colours. Diza is the fastest and will have the highest up-time. Her main downside are a lack of awakenings but has a huge amount of base HP so it can allow you to reach new thresholds of health.

Ah, I see. That makes sense. Thankfully, I am lucky enough to have all three, I just need to skill them up.

You need to continuously run the alt technicals and pray for the 2% drop. Also clear all the challenges available. If you can clear Arena 1, that’s another way to acquire them. They are meant to be rare =P

nahh i meant just whats a efficient way to farm them Arena i didn’t tried and i dunno if i can do it maybe i could try it with Artemis xD but well 70k HP on a 16x multiplier i dunno freyja is sort of a must have on her cuz the dmg A.Isis as well thez can be both lookked as stable sub but the other 2 i dunno i run A.Artemis,Liu bei, GZL/A,susano,A.Isis and freyja 4mil per sub was the highest dmg i did with her but its a bit tricky 1-2 mil is regular on her

Well there is no efficient way to farm them outside of Arena as the drop rates are very low. Generally speaking, you need a fully plussed team to tackle Arena as it will improve your consistency

do you have a good team idea for fenrir i got 2 fenrir and a denebola for dark monster just Tsukiyomi, pandora, haku but no idea

well i think with 3 fenrirs is playable like turn 1 fenrir 1 turn jammer skyfall when u get lucky u will have 3 jammers so 2 turns u can use a fenrir on turn 3 with his 5 turns max skilled its manageable with 2 jorm and 3 fenrir i think
LikeLike
i will just need to work on him and get my 2 jorm :s well 3 jammers and 4 colors/5 colors shouldnt be so hard its just 5-6 combos with 3,5sec worth of TE. only think u need is a bind clear with a high RCV so A.Ama / NY Ama can be a stable sub who have a 1 turn haste (Ama is a nice high RCV and bind clear sub who covers light) with a Freyja skill (i know u dont need a buff but well why not add a 2x buff to see how far u can do the dmg on a 700x Lead for Arena)

I know Gainut (from coop) is another viable board changer that has stronger awakenings than Jorm (and stats) so that may be another card to consider.
You still need to be mindful/prepared to not be able to activate on every board thus some sort of defensive utility is needed. Hopefully your team gets up and running soon =)

Ok, I have another question for you (what a surprise :P)
One of my IRL friends has a Raoh and I have a Freyr, so I’m trying to make a team. Here’s my current team:
Freyr
A-Leilan
Ronia
Sanada
???
Raoh
I’m fumbling as to what could go into that last spot. I’m looking for a defensive active, as I have no shortage of or generation. Unfortunately, I have no attacker or devil-type fire monsters with a defensive active. I was thinking about Uriel or Susano, but they are off-type and would only get a partial bonus. My only other legitimate options if I keep it on-type are a second Ronia or Anima, neither of which sound like good options.
Should I just wait until I get another good fire roll, or should I work with what I have, and if so, how?
Also, thank you so much for your unbending support to your fans. You’ve helped me build pretty much every decent team I have 🙂
LikeLike
Thank you for your kind words =)
In regards to your struggle to find a defensive/shield oriented sub, the truth is, Raoh/Freyr teams should not need them. Your HP pool is already enhanced to survive any reasonable attack (giant/execution hits will probably kill you through a shield) and you are better off with more orb generation. You already generate hearts via Sanada and remember you can alway inherit a shield onto an on-type sub. Thus, you should use the second Ronia and replace if you acquire someone new.
Hope this helps =)
