I am in the process of updating this list over the next week or two and work from the top down so somethings will still be outdated/missing in the meantime.
Introduction
Due to the ever changing dynamic of team building through Skill Inheritance, team building has either become more flexible or more rigid. It becomes more flexible due to the fact that you can use almost any card as a sub and fill in the blanks via inheritance. However, this does eventually lead to a more rigid team building experience as you will end up using similar powerful bases and supplementing with appropriate assists.
As such, I have been trying to determine how I can have this list reflect both aspects of team building. Listing subs that fulfill specific roles is helpful, but may become misleading once you begin to acquire more cards to play around with. Thus, I will try my best to list higher tier subs along with other options and include a massive inheritance chart at the beginning you can use to fill in the gaps.
When deciding which leader and team you want to invest in, you ideally want to find a balance between a deep and diverse sub pool combined with a love for their playstyle that suits your personality and matching skills. Even leaders who are not popular in the meta are capable of clearing high end content provided you have a synergetic team and passion for their gameplay.
Furthermore, you should try to balance the subs/actives you bring to ensure a healthy mixture of quick orb changers, damage enhancing, and defensive utility. When trying to determine if you require a bind clearing sub, you must take into account how dangerous the bind is and whether you can stall through it or avoid it. If you are able to avoid the bind by bursting through the boss before they are able to attack, it may be best to do so as bind clearing subs tend to bring little to the party aside from their active. Lastly, leaders with higher multipliers are more reliant on consistency and survivability over offensive actives as the sheer strength of their leader skill can sweep most floors.

Popular leaders sorted by category
When trying to find a particular leader in this post, it is best to use the ctrl + F (search) feature. Otherwise, the leaders are colour sorted in no particular order. Due to the sheer size of this ever growing list, I may have trimmed out lesser leaders and simply put their names alongside other cards that are similar to them (eg. placing other rainbow leaders alongside Ra if similar).
I am not including the button farming coop teams.

Skill Inheritance
Skill Inheritance has become a vital part of the Puzzle and Dragons meta as it allows you to utilize desirable active skills from cards that would not be ideal to run as subs. This also enables you to better customize your team to your liking and address any dangerous mechanic the dungeon can throw at you. I encourage you to read my revamped Skill Inheritance Guide to better understand all the changes that have been made and how to better utilize this mechanic.
Below is for the most part, a full overview of the various inheritance options you can use sorted by categories. For full board changers, you can utilize off-colour inherits provided they generate your desired element. However, if possible, you should try to use same attribute inherit and base to take advantage of the stat transfer feature.

Popular leaders and the sub list:

Reincarnated Shiva
49x ATK / 4x RCV
Shiva is a relatively easy to use leader as you are reliant on TPA
and have a scaling combo multiplier. While it does take 7 combos to cap on damage, you can still match a TPA with fewer and sweep through most content. Fully maxed out Shivas will hit for about 2 million damage with a single fire TPA and a total of 7 combos. You should be running the +HP Badge while prioritizing TPA cards.

Xiang Mei

2.25x HP / 81x ATK healer types
Xiang Mei has quickly fallen out of the Meta due to the power of Heart Crosses. This is not to say she cannot clear content, but she is simply slower, more restrictive, and lacks consistency in end game content. Please read my Full Review for more detailed information.
Staple subs:
Xiang Mei fills up your sub slot and becomes reliant on Skill Inheritance to shine while providing haste and heart orb generation.
Gadius is unbindable and provides heart and fire orb generation with his full board changer and recover bind
awakening. Just be careful as he lacks a skill bind resist
awakening.
Uriel is another essential sub who possess a double orb changer to spawn fire and heal orbs. Has perfect synergy with Gadius’s full board changer. Dupes are encouraged.
Viable subs:
Valen provides a 30% damage reduction shield for 4 turns on a 6-turn cooldown should you require damage mitigation. With Xiang Mei’s haste component, you an have nearly 100% uptime.
Laila produces full horizontal line of fire orbs at the bottom row of the board. This enables you to automatically form a row, just be careful you have sufficient heart orbs present.
Red Riding Hood has a water to heart orb active along a 3-turn bind clear.
Christmas Echidna (or regular Echidna
) provides 3 turns of delay which becomes vital when dealing with dangerous bosses who have either resolve/perseverance or dangerous kill mechanics
Party Fox, Mitsuki (NY REM) promises a festive time with her double orb to heart active and 1 turn haste. Can also use the regular Mitsuki
from the REM.
Mamiya comes from the Fist of the North Star Collab and features a jammer and water to fire orb changer along with 20% reduction to dark damage via 4
awakenings.
Kiriko is a rare pull from the Shinarabansho Choco Collab and provides a full board changer into fire, light, and heart orbs.

Gadius
1.82x HP Dragon type
42.25x ATK (
and heart orb reliant)
Gadius is quite outdated due to the fact that far stronger options exist. However, if you are keen on playing him, it can still work.

Shiva Dragon
39x ATK 6.25x RCV for Fire Gods
Shiva Dragon is a premiere speed farming leader that has an unconditional 39x ATK to fire Gods. You are able to stack either TPA or rows and are able to deal spectacular damage with minimal effort. There is no “perfect” team for him and it is mostly using the cards that you have been given to succeed while countering the dungeon mechanics. Due to your amazing RCV, you can easily stall for skills.

Happy Puzzling!
I have a question regarding my game progress. Here is my box: https://twitter.com/max__pad/status/751771677768294400
Am I still at a point where I should be rolling every Godfest to build up my box, or am I to the point where I can be a bit more choosy in which godfests I want to roll in for specific cards?
LikeLike
Well the answer to that question is what kind of teams do you want to run and currently run? Who are you using to clear your current content with? You have the makings of several teams (I noticed you are quite strong in water with a I&I and future Sarasvati team
LikeLike
I’m a bit of a mess in terms of what teams I run, as I have the starting a of quite a few teams and my king dragons and tamadras sometimes get spread a little thin. Here’s my team list:
Current/Main:
-Awoken DQXQ (Wukong/Venus/Susano/Apollo, will be Apollo/Wedding Izanami/Sakuya/Baal with Py’s and tamadras)
-Awoken Pandora (Persephone/Loki/DValk/Lilith, will switch Loki for Lu Bu once his Uuevo comes out, I’ll prob also switch Lilith for Hanzo once I max skill him)
-Awoken Ra (DKali, Isis, Indra, Sun Quan)
-Hathor (Ra, Susano, Loki, Indra; I know this team isn’t too good, I am prob about to retire this team)
Future/WIP:
-*I&I/Ryune* (BValk, Blonia, Karin, Sun Quan or Isis, whichever appropriate for dungeon; my main concern is that Norsebounds are starting to fall out of the meta, but it can probably be easily reworked into a Sarasvati team)
-*Raoh/Freyr* (Sanada Yukimura, Leilan, Ronia, Cao Cao; same concern for this team as with I&I)
-*Saria/Thor* (DQXQ, Hathor, Wukong, Apollo; again, Norsebounds are falling out of the meta.
-*Blonia* (I&I, Karin, Isis, Uuevo Sara)
-Sarasvati (Blonia, BValk, I&I, Sumire)
The WIP teams I marked *like this* are teams that I’m hesitant to build because I think that Awoken DQXQ will overshadow them and there’s no real need to make them. The only WIP team I think can challenge DQXQ is Sarasvati; and although I have decent subs for her, I worry I won’t have enough orb generation to play her effectively.
As always, much thanks for your analysis & help. I would be in a very different place PAD-wise without you.
LikeLike
Your future DQXQ looks solid as you cover all your figurative bases with a shield, bind clear/gravity, double/single orb change, AND all the colours. Only thing you may need is a delay (but thats what coop/SI is for)
Unless you are starved for RCV, Lilith is not needed for Pandora and competes for the damage enhance slot
The Norsebounds are still strong. They are only struggling in Annihilation level content but are gaining some ground back with coop as you don’t need to stall as much due to 4 more actives. You can still clear Arena 2 with them but I would invest more into the water one as you have a future in Sarasvati (do not bring I&I for her as you dont need more damage)
Glad to be of help =D

I am wondering about ra dragon teams. I have never been lucky enough to pull an indra, and I’m not sure how important the full 100%skill bind resist is. I recently pull beach metatron and her new evo has dual sbr. If I took the usua double kali as subs amd replaced isis/indra with something like beach meta/susanoo would this be a good idea. My susanoo is g/l so he is still a god.
Sorry if this is hard to read, I just woke up.
LikeLike
Well the thing with Ra Dragon is that he has become significantly more versatile due to coop and now the badge system. The key is still the dual Kali for access to board changers. As for your other subs, I would pick who can help you the most. You can address the SBR via badges, but outside of Susano, your entire team is bind immune so you can inherit more utility onto metatron.
I would say go for it if you enjoy the playstyle as you have the dual Kali
LikeLike
Susanoo is bind immune. Lol, was thinking of inheritting muse to meta. I haven’t scored high enough for the sbr badge and I’d honestly prefer not to waste the badge on that one.

The badge system is like u have infinite badges of that. You’re free to put whatever badge u want on whatever team, different teams can have the same badge, u can switch what badge u want on what team at any time for no cost whatsoever, u just can’t have two badges on one team.

I know; I meant that I’d not want to use the badge slot for this team on that one. My bad.

I know, I meant that I don’t have the sbr badge atm. And even if I did have it, I’d like to use a different badge over something like sbr.

My mistake, I thought G/L wasn’t bind immune
Muse on Meta would ensure you pierce through the Kali 65% danger zone in Arena so that is a viable option as you have no use for the bind clear

First off, you have a very powerful XM team and you have Uriel, Uriel, Gadius, but who is your final sub? Another XM is a very powerful option if you enjoy that playstyle
Due to the power of your XM team, neither YY or Yomi D will allow you to clear more content as a leader. Yomi D works as a very strong sub on Lucfier or A Yomi teams, but they wont be able to clear more content than your XM
If you buy a new MP card that isnt XM, you are mostly giving yourself new teams to play with, not a step forward for content clearing
Also, I love your wording =)

Thanks for the input. My final sub is currently red riding hood for the bond clean since I have no inherenace on the other subs. I’ve thought about another XM but, while I enjoy her play style I do a lot of co op with myself. I’ve been running ideas in my head to clear more content using co op. My alt account has some nice hitters ( I list at the end of post) so I’ve been been thinking along those lines. I admit I have a TON of practice to go with XM. And personally I like changing things up a lot. I’m currently work up a cao cao team (love row team for some reason) a shiva team and hoping to pull a A lui bei soon since I have the subs I want for a team (alt account has him already…). Highest content I’m looking at getting up to by years end is mech Hera.

Oh yeah alt monsters! Hah I guess the power of liu bei distracted me again 😉
So here we go!
Ult ult lu bu. Sephiroth. Cruel Pandora. Dtron. Dk Cecil. A tsuk. Goetia. Grisar. Nearly all are max lvled and fully awoken
Hehe Also I just farmed up my first zerog. For yomi d if I were to buy him

Z8 is not a good Yomi Dragon sub as he is not a god so loses out on the full multiplier
If a second XM is not as desirable, then it would be best to wait for the next wave of MP cards to be released
I also lack a LB on Mantastic and I have been able to use Australis + LB and it is able to clear M+ Devil Rush, Linthia etc. I wont be able to do Myr, but I still get around it =P Could also use Perseus
And there is nothing wrong with switching it up =)

I’ve been thinking its best to hold off until the next batch of mp monster are announced. As far as my want for liu I was think australis would be a decent replacement until the rng show me some love. I still need to evolve and skill up all of the monsters on both teams. So much work left to do but it’ll be a fun road to puzzle down!
Thanks for the insight and keep the puzzle training coming 😀

Hey Mantastic,
I have a decent water box and am now trying to decide if I want to invest my resources into a Sumire or Sarasvati team. My water box consists of: Sarasvati, Blonia, BValk, Sumire, I&I, Karin, Isis, Sun Quan, Sadalmelik, and Alrescha. My possible teams are:
Sarasvati, Karin. Sumire, Blonia, Bvalk
Sumire, I&I, Isis, Sarasvati, Sadalmelik
Which would be a better lead to invest in, and if so, what subs should I use?
As always, much thanks for all your help.

Are you mostly playing in solo or coop? Also, what kind of content do you clear atm and what are your other main teams?
Sarasvati is better in coop due to more HP, actives, skill boosts, etc. She also one shots things but has low survivability
On the other hand, Sumire is a better solo lead and is more stable due to the shielding
LikeLike
I play very dominantly in solo, and my current team is DQXQ. I can clear pretty much any mythical with it and I’m working on Arena.

Then I would continue to invest in DQXQ as she is the stronger solo lead and much more flexible. Sara is more of a niche team you bring out for very specific dungeons

APersephone should be on this list- right? When the buff comes to NA she is a 2.25/20.25/2.25 tank beast. I’m trying to figure out a full sub list, but the obvious: Tyhpon, Okuninushi, ALoki, Castor, Haku, & Lumiel. Maybe some of the Blue/Dark orb changers like Ryune or Blonia? Can anyone think of good active combos? I run a Pers/Typhon/Typhon/Loki/Okun. team, mostly from not having some of the better subs, but those fire orbs are kind of useless. Castor seems like heart breaker overkill. Loki gets you to 44x, with any good TPAs you can clear most of the content of the game with your ridiculous HP (50,000+) and RCV.
LikeLike
I will try to put her in soon!
As for your team queries, Castor is slight overkill on heart breaking although his God Killer is very welcomed. Using Ryune/Blonia as an inherit is a much better idea instead of diluting your damage (can use them on Castor!)
Typhon is a powerful card, but his active is a bit luck reliant without help. You could always inherit those other board changers to retain his body/awakenings.
Prob with both Loki/Oku is you are somewhat losing their benefits due to both enhancing. How vital is the delay or loki for you?
LikeLike
Loki is vital for a kill shot most of the time right now, as the buff hasn’t come to NA yet- so only a 14x ATK. Oku is decent for safety or a little extra atk, but with the high HP/RCV safety isn’t really necessary! I run them both because I don’t have other great subs for her, my dark box is not very deep, top heavy strangely. 2x Typhon, APersp, ALoki, Oku, Castor, Yomi, Sheen, Fenrir, DKali, Zuoh, Satsuki, Finn, Gremory (just pulled), thought of using Ryune. Obviously a lot of these aren’t relevant for her though! I don’t even have a Hanzo to Fire->Dark inherit or anything! The extra fire orbs can be bad, but with 2 Persephones you have a good stretch of dark skyfall+. Great tank lead, low active synergy for me right now, will probably do a Ryune active onto Castor in the future. I feel like there’s more potential somewhere, so I was looking here/around and didn’t see much on her for team building, so thanks!
LikeLike
She is not as popular now due to tank teams struggling in higher end content. Gremory can be strong, but also risky as you may remove your water orbs. I guess looking at your options, you do not have too much synergy to work with =(
At least you can stall out most floors and if the delay does help, you should continue to run him
LikeLike
I just got DQXQ and the awoken materials! I told myself not to pull but Light Gala was too tempting. I read your article about her and saw your Miru run and I hope in a couple of months I can get one. Been running Gadius and the damage seems to stall sometimes. I was thinking DQXQ / LValk / Wedding Iza / L/D Venus (don’t have materials yet for Awoken) and not sure on last.
LikeLike
I have been doing some more research today and I saw an interesting concept to run Gadius on an A. DQXQ team. I am already heavily invested into him and am thinking of trading out Wedding Iza for him. He can clear binds and has a devil killer. Not the best but I think it would be easy to activate the leader skill with his board refresh. What do you think?
LikeLike
The thing with Gadius’s refresh is you are gambling on the number of light orbs and cannot use any active to correct it.
I personally love Wedding Iza as she adds an amazing amount of damage. Gadius would be more of a situational card imo.
What are your other options for the final sub slot if you do not run Gadius
Also, L/D Venus is reasonably strong too and has a nice built in active burst
LikeLike
Verche, Ars Nova, LMeta, A Ra, or Rei Sirus/Wee Jas. I don’t have a lot of board refreshes and haven’t done a rainbow Leeds but I’m excited. Dad pulled her too but is on his Sakuya train so I’m trying to convert him :). Even if she isn’t meta, the strongest I’ve cleared was Zeus Dios today, curse you fire bind!
LikeLike
Well if Gadius is your best board refresh then I would use him. If you are forced to use a board refresh, you couldn’t have activated and taking a risk on a bad board is worth it as it may still work out (statistically get 7.5 of each type per board change)
As for last slot, Verche is alright, adds more light orbs and would only use Light Meta if heavily invested or the dungeon has binds.

Ready to rumble with ADQXQ, my temptative team would be sometging like this: ADQXQ, L/D Pollux, Sun Wukong, L Kali, ASusano
I’ve got some viable subs: L/G Valk, Wedding Akechi, L/D Izanagi, LMetatron, GrOdin, Raphael, Okuninushi, Muse, Holy Night Genie and Hator
Other cards I’ve got: Alcyone, Shining Dragon Knight (SI for Bind clearing?), unevolved Izanagi (I’d like to evolve in his Awoken form), Baal and Indra, plus L/R Amaterasu and L/G Thor (time to unevolve them for their Awoken form?)
Well, I’m a bit overhelmed, any suggestion?
LikeLike
I would keep Pollux and Wukong (with Wedding Akechi inherit) on your team. Light Kali is your best fire option, but you can also just run Susano for that and use a different card in Kali’s place. I would run Baal (if skilled up) in Kali’s place and swap in Metatron as needed for binds
Thus, you team would be L/D Pollux, Wukong (akechi inherit), Susano, Baal.
Also, it is better to evovle your Ama and Thor into their Awoken form

Hi! I am a relatively new player. I am currently rank 155. I am a non-IAP player. I have been struggling some with figuring out my team building. Who should I be using as my main leads (that can tackle late game/descends) and which subs should I be placing on their teams? Also, who should be my main priorities right now for maxing, evolving, etc.
Here is my padherder account: https://www.padherder.com/user/lizziekampe/monsters/#31,0,31,8191,4294967295_63,0,,0,0,0,eq,0,0,0,0,;default,0
I have one more question. A lot of different dragons have been dropping for me, do I keep all of them or what should I be doing with them? How do I figure out which drops in the game I should be keeping or get rid of, because I feel like my monster box is often full of useless monsters?
Thank you for your time!
LikeLike
In general, it helps to keep all of the dungeon drops as many are used for evolving monsters etc. However, if you are running out of space, you can always sell them and reacquire later.
As for your team direction, I would recommend you start working towards Awoken DQXQ. You do have other strong leaders such as Sherias Roots and Gremory, but they require specific subs you do not own so it’s hard to work on them for now.
For Awoken DQXQ, your team could look like:
Awoken DQXQ
Sherias Roots
Valkyrie
Dark Izanami
and Sun Quan
This team will provide a delay, orb change, board refresh, and shield. I would recommend investing pluses into DQXQ and Sherias Roots as they will be used later on.

Hello,
Recently, I have begun to mentor some IRL friends in PAD, and one of them is in quite a unique situation: he has 3 eschamalis (I’ll just skip rants about how that shouldn’t even be possible when he’s only like rank 200). Usually as a rule I just say “keep everything from the REM (with a few exceptions), even if it’s a dupe or a silver,” but the fact that Eschamali is worth 50k combined with how I don’t really see a use for more than one, maybe two for certain situations/SI, really got me thinking that it may be better to sell them. I’m sort of lost with what advice to give, what would you recommend?

should this question be somewhere else/require myracle stones on-stream to be answered? If so I apologize for misplacing the question

Whoops sorry, thought I replied!
Dual Eschamali can find a home on Yomi Dragon teams (especially the new evolution) as the orb enhances and active go wonderfully on a 5o1e team. Even if they are unable to ultimately evolve her, the dual Escha still provides huge passive damage on a 36x ATK team
He should also keep the third Escha for skill inheritance purposes as the active is one of the best possible on non heart cross teams

Hi mantastic,
I think you should update this list. Some stuff is as good/fine/perfect as it is, but some other stuff lokks a bit ‘old’ nowadays. I mean, is Loki really a sub for Luci? I think it is perfect for SI and another orbchanger (esp with haste or even a 2nd Akechi) could be better.
And I miss some of the ‘newer’ leaders (ok, some are just a new version of older stuff like Oda/Lu Bu is just another ALuc/APandora…more or less).
Anyway, I

You have Krishna so you should be focusing on him, even if you do not have perfect subs. Run Leilan, Urd, Red Sonia, and Tsubaki as subs =)
Conversely, you can run a Blue Sonia team as you have many dragon/physical subs. Run Ryune, Andromeda, B/L Hermes, and Awoken Sun Quan or Skuld as the final slot =)

Great page and content. Buffs have rendered some of your specifics out-of-date, but I can dig that you’d rather work new content instead of being in permanent rewrite/update mode. I do, however, think L/D Izanagi now deserves some love as a multi-combo lead. Pair him with some orb changers and it’s easy to trigger the 9x kicker. With dual TPA and an active spike you can generate some serious hit (for three light TPAs (no other combo) w/ active spike triggered, hyper-max L/D Izanagi dual leads are putting out close to 5M ATK each).

I always found it strange you haven’t included it here before though, since he’s one of the better rainbow leads right now and you’ve included him as a sub for other cards.
I did get some insight on him from your Review and analysis from when he was released, but that wasn’t as detailed as the guides here.
So my request is, if you could include him in your update since it would help me and other players a lot 🙂
